Intresting find with Liberty Caps near London
    #993017 -

At last after weeks of waiting the mushrooms have finally made it into the South East. I was out walking my dog this evening in fields i know and saw what must be the second flush, which was much bigger than the first flush i saw last weekend. I guess there were a fair few hundred there this time.

But more intresting is that growing in the same field as the liberty caps I found a very intresting shroom, as you can see from the bottom pictures, its much bigger than liberty caps. You may not be able to see in the pic, but when i first picked it the stork had blue staining to it, a few hours after picking the stork has gone a darker blue, and the cap is also staining blue. In fact with the shiney (almost golden) cap that it has and the stringy stork, i think i looks this looks much more like a cubensis that any other mushroom ive ever found. Is this a relative of cubensis that has found me? Im just taking a spore print, so ill let you all know.

Well, going by a book of active shrooms in the UK, only one possibilty, but it probably isn't it. Ps. Coprophila is the closest in this book, and I know it won't be in my normal fungi guides.

Was it growing from dung?

Better let someone who's alot smarter than me ID it lol, only replying cuz I saw the link you posted at the shroommap

mighty umbonate for a cubensis.
and the weather just wouldn't allow cubensis where you are, i dont think, especially this time of year.
what the hell is it?
psilocybe for sure.
who knows?
damn, that's cool.
hope someone knows.

Hmm that big one is interesting...

Yeah, its definetly not a cubensis, nor a coprophila...beats me on to what it is...

Cubensis will nto fruit in that climate, and coprophila does not bruise blue, adn the gills are much different in shape.

Was it growing off of dung, or in the grass around dung? Does it smell like a Psilocybe?

Hello phash,

...Amazing Psilocybe semilanceata imagery,
Thank you for sharing these pictures with us.

Your other mushroom is Psilocybe strictipes.
-Nice find, I would really like to see more photos of these.

It was growing in the grass just the same as the P.Semilanceatas, ive got a book called "a guide to British Psilocybin mushrooms" by Richard Cooper, its quite old (1977), it does mention a few Stropharia mushrooms in there, (Aeruginosa, Semiglobata and Merdaria) but doesn't have any pics or descriptions so i cant compare. It also says that the Stropharia mushrooms in this country are not very potent.

Ill go back to the field in a couple of days and see if i can find anymore of these growing, maybe ill get a younger one will maybe a veil or something.

One more thing, if P.Semilanceatas were dried properly, using desicant etc would the potentcy stay the same, or are they always stronger when fresh?

Ive found a few pictures on the net, that i suspect might be the one i found. Stropharia caerulea is found all over North Europe, but i still cant find much info on it. Take a look and you decide.

This one found in Poland:

Psilocybe caerulea is not found in lawns,
Its reported habitat is gardens and soils rich in manure.

Keep shroomin,
GG

What does the spore print color look like?

Lol, I have that book, it's really outdated, but has shrooms in that my normal mushroom ID books don't, I really must get some better books

He found it in well manured grass, in the same habitat as liberty caps.

I believe that Stropharia is often synonmous with Psilocybe because mushrooms from the two genera are so similar. Some of the mushrooms in that book listed as Stropharia might have been moved to the Psilocybe genus, so you may want to try switching up the genus when you do your searches.
