Bad or Liberties?
    #992679 - 10/25/02 03:15 PM (14 years, 1 month ago)

sorry, again i havbe no pics. The shrooms i found this time, have to be libertys. i wewnt into a very grassy wide open area. the grass was very tall and it was pushed over by the wind. when i looked closer i saw little greyish, pale mushy's. the gills are brown, and i cant tell if they are bruised, because the stems are the size of toothpicks. there are two-three different kinds here. one i found strictly on moss, and it has a bell shaped cap, and looks pale orange..the gills are pale orange also. another one has a grey-blackish cap with grey gills, and the last kind has an off colour brown, almost orangy brown, and was found in wet grass (same with the grey ones). The mushrooms are all vary small, some caps are just smaller than a penny, sum are not even close. I hope these are magic!!!! any help guys??
THANK YOU SO MUCH
you've made a hunting-newbie very proud!!
peace.

first off, stay away from small orange/brown mushrooms and ones on moss.
do you have a scanner? if so or if you can use someone elses, you can set the mushrooms on the glass, cover them with something like a cloth that will keep the light out and not crush them. you then have a picture.
semies will have grey gills wich become darker and gain a purple color when they produce spores. they have flexible, almost rubbery stems which can easily be wraped around one's finger without breaking. the cap has a seperable pellicle covering it which can be peeled off as long as the mushroom is still moist. about one in three will bruise blue, most will not bruis in the field.
the ones you have described do not sound like libs. good luck and keep huntin, they are out there.

Thank you concrete. you described the mushrooms i picked, better than me!!! Anyways, yes the stems do wrap around my finger without breaking. are these eible mushrooms? will they get me high? I have 8 small greyish cap mushrooms...the length varies from 5-8 cm. if i ate these would they get me high? i have no scanner, sorry.

please post a better description of these greyish ones. first of all did they have a pellicle? hat was the habitat? be as descriptive as you can. what where the cap dimensions? what where the stem dimentions? what is the cap texture like? ho about the stem? gill structure? spore print? you can't ask someone to tell you it's safe to eat a mushroom that they can't look at without a meticulous, detailed description. spore print is usualy the first order of business.

no spore print yet, sorry. All the caps seem to have a blackish/chracoal circle at the very top. Each of the caps has a nipple, but are not fully belled shape. cap texture is rubbery. im sorry i havnt figured out what a pellicle is, im sorry ill fijnd out sooner or later. the gills are regular, theres nothing weird about them. each of the caps are about 1-1 1/2 cm in diameter. the stems are rubbery hollow things that are really, realllllly tiny (not even the size of a toothpick). i found these mushrooms amongst tall grass, and there were alot.....but they were all very very small. it was wet also.
peace.
