Cultivation: Indoors or outdoors?

Hello, all. I have been reading up on info about growing mushrooms, inside, and outside. However, I cannot choose which environment to grow in. I think it is more of a sterility issue than anything, because i do not want to waste my time/money growing the mushrooms inside If the chances are great for bacterial infection ( having to worry constantly about working in an environment where the sterility is unknown) . I live in SE Missouri, and very eager to attempt to produce a crop. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Either way, you are going to end up doing both. And it is not WASTING. It is LEARNING thru Xperience.

Also, it is getting colder in the US now. East coast hit 6 above freezing this morning. Maybe there are strains that can withstand that. None I know of. But hell they might. My gerbal never let the temp slip below 67F in his fruiting/incu chambers.

Well if you are planning on growin any cubensis i think its 2 late in the year to be growing outside. My possum grew some outside and found that it required MORE labor than his bulk substrate endevors, and produced lacking, and sporatic flushes. When he grew inside using horse shizzy spawned with brf cakes, he got many, HUGE, and predictable flushes. He did tell me once that he thought the outdoor guys were more potent. 20 grams of fresh outdoor treasure coast guys split his wig, while 20 grams of indoor gave him a less euphoric experience. Still in his opinion, indoor is the best. If you are just starting out, he suggest indoor endevors.

I agree with Floyd. Not only is it too late in the season to consider outside cultivation in SE Mo, I believe you will enjoy better, more consistent results indoors.
In my opinion, it's not very difficult at all to maintain the level of cleanliness required to successfully cultivate mushrooms indoors. A little common sense, lysol, and a pressure cooker (boiling is also viable) go a long way.
The best introduction to cultivation for most people is the PF-Tek. You will soon discover that it does not require the time nor does it require the expense that many people assume.
Good luck
