I have read increasing the spore count will cause the mycelium to appear sooner. Consider if the extra spore solution would cost more than the $7 aquarium heater from Walmart

The good thing about this hobby is that experimentation is very acceptable! Even highly rewarding :shocked:

When I first started I would innoculate with the recommended 1/2 to 1 cc (MMGG). then I found out that I had some spore solution left in the syringe...what a waste :frown:...so I now just guest-imate the amount. I truly think that adding more would help the colonization rate. It has for me :grin:

To answer your questions, yes. In general, adding more spore solution will speed up colonization time. Usually, I feel this is not ideal due to the numerous, competing mycelial entities all vying for nutrients and space.

I use 3cc per jar and have great results total colonization in 2 weeks in half pint jars

i use less than 2cc, incubate at 86 degrees F and get 100 percent in 2 weeks. so your results may vary. but one potential danger is the liquid added with more spore solution. there will be a point of diminishing returns where the harm of too much water will be greater than the benefit of more spores.

Simply because I do not know, is 2 weeks for total colonization considered fast? What would be an average time?
