why would jocks hate on skateboarding?

u are implying that sports take your individuality

LOL @ U

the impressive thing with sports is how all the individuals act as one while still displaying unique abilities from each other.

while you as a skater make your body work for the idea in your mind

a soccer team will work very hard to connect all of their bodies to THE MIND or the team in order to act effortlessly as a whole.

its not really different at all.

I hear what you are saying. Guess I just love skateboarding too much :jamming:  But I am personally an abstract type of thinker, that is why I am not personally a fan of team sports. seems limiting. but def takes a lot of work and a straight mind

well dude ill tell you the best moments of my life have come from

both team and individual sports
psychedelics
camping/hiking
LOVE

i think all of these things are just another way of achieving the same thing.

you know when ur skating and that day ur trying so had for a trick then ur body finally understands what to do and you land it seemingly effortlessly?

well to give you a picture of my team sporting experience

the best moments are when start making perfect plays with yor teamatees and it just flows, and afterward you realize how fucking amazing the coordination of your mind with your body and theirs has been.

Is "sitting around on a couch getting drunk on beer and eating chips and watching muscular men kick a ball around and pat each other on the asses with my friends" on that list? I think that's what this thread is about.

Competition is pretty lame. Whats the point of trying to prove you're 'better' at something else? What void are you trying to fill? Who the fuck cares. I played football and realized how arrogant these jock sniffing douchebags were. Just as sickening as materialistic people. Giving a shit about a purposeless game.

Wow.

Tell us, what is your purpose?

This thread is ridiculous.  Makes me think I'm really am surrounded by a bunch of judgmental, pretentious eggheads.

Why is it so hard to understand what is attractive about sanctioned competition?

Sports bring out incredible qualities in people.  Mental focus, body control, teamwork, self-mastery, skills of all sorts.  They reveal character and passion.  They create legends and sagas, without nations getting conquered and people being exploited.  Being a sports fan is about getting behind people.  Real characters, some of them unforgettable.

What's wrong with that?

The human body and spirit are both incredible, and they are on showcase in all sports.  I think it is amazing what top athletes can do.

If you can't see the higher motives in sports, too bad for you, you just don't get it.

And what's all this bullshit about the betterment of society?  How many of you live solely for society's sake?  Every day I must see ten threads that are nothing but bitching about society.  Half the people dissing sports here probably follow dumb TV shows and don't recycle.

I can see the attraction in organized sports and competition, it's just not my bag. I prefer to get my outdoor activity time through passive enjoyment of nature, on hikes and such.

But sports nuts are just as bad as comic book nerds and MMO addicts and soap opera viewers. Good for you if you actually PLAY sports, but obsessing over professional athletes and teams is really lame. They are definitely paid too much.

:whatever:

Sports (for the people playing) are about money and fame.
If these sports figures weren't getting paid millions of dollars.......they wouldn't be doing it.

Period.

Sports (for the people watching) are about bragging rights and betting. People could care less how much work the players had to go through to get on the team, they just want their team to win.

It is an ignorant pass time that IMO shouldn't be allowed on TV. If you wanna see a game pay the $$$ and go see it in person.

but IMO most of the trite on TV today shouldn't be there...thats why I don't watch TV.

That's retarded.  Athletes that become rich from their sport are the elite of the elite.  ALL of them have to play for years and years with little or no pay to even have a chance to try out for a major league team.  NOBODY makes it to the big leagues who doesn't love the game.  Not one fucking person.  The competition is too fierce.

High-profile athletes make a lot of money because they generate a lot of money for their employers.  This is called business.  Let me guess, you think anyone with lots of money is a greedy pig, right?

If sports aren't your thing, that's fine.  But if you think it's all about money, you're way off the mark.

I guarantee you that if they didn't have the opportunity to make large sums of money they wouldn't play.

Kinda like the lottery.

Dude people play all kinds of sports all the time with no intention of ever being rich or famous from it.

You think beer-league baseball players are secretly waiting for an MLB scout to show up and 'discover' them?  Come on man, sports are fun.

You think Olympic shot-put athletes do it to make millions in the lucrative shot put circuit?  Why is it so hard to believe people actually like playing sports?

And why am I arguing with someone who obviously doesn't get it?  :suicide:
