Did the psilocybin mushrooms evolve pislocybin as a toxin?

When Im tripping on mushrooms it feels like Ive been poisoned, or is that just a side effect. Why do plants have psychedelic innards, is it just a coincidence? Is pure psilocybin not as harsh on the body as eating a mushroom? Why does one on mushrooms feel like they have been poisoned? Datura is a poison and also makes you trip, are the two related?

Nobody really knows why silly simon came in the first place, all we know is that its a good good thing it did come. as far as the poisoned feeling, its because the way it runs through your system is the same as a poisonous mushroom-- its really the same chain of events as food poisoning. it just upsets your stomach is all, because you can't handle that naturally.
shits crazy man... look up the fungus codyceps unilateralis... its a fungus that brainwashes ants then explodes mushrooms out of their heads. this is why i love mycology!

no need to look that up I know all about it, fungus can be real evil Did you know in some countries they hunt for infected dead insects killed by it, and they actually sell them for a living

is that so? how peculiar. i've read that the whole genus contains a chemical that's valuable in the medical field for organ transplants.

What the hell are you guys talking about? By poisoned I guess you mean you experience nausea? Psilocin and many other psychedelics cause nausea. The feeling is mostly produced neurologically, but I believe your body can determine where the chemical is being absorbed from and rejects it.
Even the pure form of many psychedelics causes nausea so they are either irritants, or maybe something more complex is going on (maybe your body detects a higher concentration of activity in the neurons surrounding the stomach). Im sure various types of plant matter doesnt help either.
