MICROWAVE TEK ALERT
    #990632 -

be extremely cautious when using the microwave, as i was doing, for agar sterilization, or for any other use. a 500ml MEA flask overheated and exploded in my kitchen today. luckyly no one was harmed, and the flask fortunately was plastic. however, i recommend caution to all if using the microwave in your experiments

Don't forget the importance of not putting metal instruments in the microwave  :ooo:
My girlfriend has the ability to forget things are made of metal... and is then in for a surprise. Some people don't learn

Well that's problem, don't leave it capped and your fine. Lol, one time I sterilized some beer in a tupperware container, and I capped it after it was boiling, and stuck it in the fridge, and it collapsed on itself because it created a vacuum inside.

which is why your supposed to stuff a polyfill wad halfway in for a cap. that is, of course if you have a flask.

if you have a jar of honey water with the cap loosely on it can bubble up and leave a sticky ring around the cap which seals it too. it normally will just blow of when pressure builds up. the other problem is when you microwave and let it cool and then microwave again without moving it the liquid can superheat. when you go to take the jar out it can vapourize in a split scond leaving your hands covered in a boiling sticky mess. this has happened to me several times, the superheating not the burnt hands!

well, i always try to find an upside, even in the most tragic situations, as my failed microwave experiment. so, observing that the explosion left a layer of MEA on the bottom of the microwave (not only there, unfortunately there was MEA all over the floor, the walls and ceiling of my kitchen :frown:), i simply proceeded to inoculate the entire microwave. i now have pan cyan and orissa mycelium growing directly in the microwave    as i said, there is always an upside   :gri
