 Help! MotorCycle Throttle Cables!

I took off the carbs, went to put them back on.
Ok. Now they're connected at carb end of the cables and handle bar end of cables. I loosened up the handlebar ends. I tightened up the decelerator cable (carb end) first while pulling the throttle open to kill all the slack I could.
Then I pushed the throttle closed on the handle bar, or my wife held it anyway, while I tightened the accelerator cable (on carb end). Then I tightened them both up on the handlebar end, decelerator cable first. then the accelerator cable. Now here's the problem:
I can open the throttle to about 2/5 to three fifths of the way open and it'll close by itself.
But if I open it any further it stays stuck with the throttle open, which would be horrible if I was trying to stop. As soon as I give the decelerator cable a little nudge via the throttle handle(bar) it closes the rest of the way like it's supposed to. What can I do to fix it?
And that's my wife so don't tell me I'm hot or anything, lol. That pic does her no justice (My wife, not the bike)

check your twist throttle assembly it might need some wd40
|

sounds like the cable is getting caught up somewhere along the line, how old is the cable? it should be replaced every year or so

I just bought this 1979 GS1000LN from someone like 3 months ago. It's pretty probable he didn't change it every year. It's lubed as hell as far as me opening the throttle assembly and squirting lube in there .
It ran all the way down the lines to the carbs. The cables are free from obstruction unless the obstruction is inside the black "insulation" that covers the cables where I can't see it. I'm no pro at terminology.

make sure its not getting caught inside the carb, do you know the specific model of the carbs?

It says in my Clymers manual: All GS1000 models are equipped with 4 Mikuni VM26SS carburetors.
They don't seem to be caught in the carbs. They are locked where they should be with the adjuster nuts, the ends being in the slots and holes, and they go straight up the bike into the connections near the handle bars with no pinching anywhere along the way. I'll have to take pictures.

u can spray WD 40 in between the cable and insulation with that red straw attachment, then work it back and forth to make sure your cable isnt sticking.
then check your on your carb to make sure your throttle spring isnt sticking there.
if those are OK, it really sounds like your cable is routed incorrectly, make sure there arent any sharp bends or kinks causing it to bind up.

you might also want to take off your handlebar throttle cover and lube the cable pin end where it connects there as well

Wow, at least you all are giving me something to try here. I have looked all over the damn internet and bought the clymer's for my bike and another manual for it and they had nothing regarding this.
The throttle spring is the one that let's the seesaw thing on the carbs where cables are attached go up and down? I haven't checked that yet. Good idea!
