going away for 10 days

In late november I will be going across the country for 10 days to see family/friends. I am trying to think ahead of how i should cope with my mushroom situation. I have 10 pf cakes in different stages of growth right now, from just starting to in the dunk tank. i also have some horse poo drying out. if i started the horse poo in say, 5-8 days, i am guessing the fruiting cycle would be just about ready to start right around when I need to leave. i have to manually fill my incubator with hot water, so i can't set stuff up to incubate for 10 days. even if i did, i don't know if i would want that sort of thing running while i'm 2,000 miles away. i'm thinking of maybe, starting the poo tek, and when it comes around that time, putting it in the refrigerator and hoping it stalls until i get back. would a 10 day cold shock mess it up? also, i was probably just going to inoculate some jars and let them sit unincubated for the time i'm gone, even though they will be growing slowly, at least they will grow. any ideas, especially on the poo? oh, and what to do if it is, say, right after the frist flush on tsomething, and it's time to go? not let it get that far and put it in the fridge early? totalling like 14 days? thanks

No, not as long as you don't freeze it. Just make sure that it is well covered.

I say just grow out the cakes, hold off on the poo till you get back, you really don't want to do it in haste before you leave and then have to start all over again because of overlay, or a contam. Just dry the shit out and put it in rubbermaids, and when you come back you'll be ready to go.

Blah, that's a drag, but sensible advice, which i will follow, sikkid. It is still my first time, so maybe it would be better if i did all cakes this time, then have 12 of them nearly fully colonized for when i get back.

Yeah, its better than having to set up a fully automated system and then worrying about it. Plus if this is your first time, its a good idea for you to be there for every step in the process, just so you get the experience. Good Luck.
