Vacutainers?

Hey just a quick question about vacutainers. I order some from the mad season to store my spores in, and I just started wondering about if they had to be stored vertically in a test tube holder or can they be laided downon their side and not leak? Thanx in advance shroomies!

Oh I know that but also great for long term storage of spores. I read some article hear where if placed in ditilled water with zero nutrients a spore print can be stored in a vacutainer for up to 10yrs. I was just wondering about leakage if stored on it's side.

They are autoclave injection ports. So they do not leak.

I have stored them on their sides for years, with no issues. But I prefer right side up if I can .

These sound like they'd be pretty useful for making syringes... Store spores, use lid/cap as injection port, inject sterile water, shake/swirl, and extract water.  I may order some of these for that reason alone.

this was pulled from a post agar contributed to years ago when LC's was just starting to take hold in this hobby heres a qoute out of the post about keeping LC'c in vacutainers for long term storage.
If you want to store it for years? Simply set a test tube with a septa plug top (or vacutainer)upright overnight.

The myc will all settle to the bottom.

Gently insert a syringe needle & asperate out 95% of the LC fluid.
Then, inject sterile water.
Then place tube in the fridge.
It will remain viable for years.


then heres another from the same thread from agar.
For very long term storage, a vacutainer should contain mycilia & sterile water. Shorter term, just straight LC is fine - so long as it is kept refridgerated.
