Those clusters are amazing; almost hypnotic.

That cactus is covered in buds, is it a gymnocalycium? the flowers look like gymno flowers. Great plants .

Nice pics and awesome cacti. Have you grown lots of Nicotiana species? I'm growing few rusticas and just started growing glaucas, though the glauca seedlings look just like your kentuckies. I also should get kentucky #9 seeds quite soon.:sun:

Thanks Doc, ill be posting pics in just a minute of the fully opened flower.

i noticed the area i have my cacti in gets down to about the mid 50's low 60's at night but warms up and becomes humid in the day, the flower closes up during the night (not all the way though) when its colder but once it gets warmer and humid in the day it opens up fully.

Can any of you cacti pros help me understand that? Maybe you Doc?

Day blooming, it is just opening at designated times when it can be pollinated. I'm sure they can offer a much more detailed explanation but day length, light intensity, temperature and humidity designate the times a flower opens as does the type of pollinator, night blooming species often use nocturnal organisms.

Shh, there are more detailed explanations but I feel no need to break out the ol' text book for this.
I've heard odder questions, but that's a pretty common one.

everyday it opened up and every night it closed, always with the same amount of light, and the light stays on 24 hours so thats why i asked.

I thought that even though sum cacti flower in the day and others at night that the cacti that flowered in the day would still need the darkness as part of their natural growth cycle or something like that, thats why i asked that question, because that big guy is under 24 hours of light and never exposed to the darkness.

Im no cacti expert, im a shroom guy.

I lurk around hunting, I feel no need to challenge you; I do support the Doctor in challenging you though as a loss might be worth a laugh or two.
