Just watched Bill Maher's Religulous. Fuckin' righteous movie, highly recommended. Now I'm working my way through the DVD extras.
While scrolling down, I caught the tail end of an absinthe convo, & figured I'd add my 2cents. Cap'n is right, thujone very very very clearly has absolutely fuck-all to do with any psychedelic or non-alchohol-related effects of absinthe. Anyone who believes otherwise can either STFU or do some bioassays and then STFU. You'll find this to be an indisputable fact. I haven't had absinthe that had any effect beyond the alcohol involved, but if you find that absinthe is indesputably more psychoactive than absinthe, thujone is not the reason. All the other allylbenzene-containing herbs are almost certainly the culprit here.
I'm so I'm probably out for the night.

I have been drinking for over 30 years and actually the buzz I get from Absinthe is different than the buzz from just about any liquor I have tried. It is arrogant to claim that without a doubt that thujone has nothing to do with the effects of Absinthe.
I'm not a heavy drinker but have done my share of trying different liquors and liqueurs. There are 16 herbs used in the bottle of Maison that I just bought. They don't have all the herbs listed but they do produce their own effects due to the distillation processes and thujone actually does have some effect on the brain.
Recent research did confirm one thing: the alpha-thujone found in absinthe causes "CNS cholinergic receptor binding activity" in the brain, which, scientists claim, improves the brain's cognitive functions. This will come as no surprise to practitioners of natural medicine, who have long prescribed thujone-rich wormwood for the improvement of thinking and memory.
Absinthe Maison ALANDIA
Maison ALANDIA is distilled with 16 different herbs, including artemisia absinthium, pontica, green anise, veronica, angelica, fennel, vanilla and coriander. Besides the complexity of the recipe, a strong focus was put into the process of distillation. Each step is hand crafted by a small family owned German distillery located in the Bavarian forest. Only 30 liter can be distilled in one batch and like in the old days, wood is used to heat the alembic. Each distillation runs for 10 hours, allowing all the herbal tones to be set free. After distillation, additional herbs are added to create Maison ALANDIAs poetical natural green color. The final product is matured for several weeks to develop its complex body, and full character. The taste of pontica is present, anise is only in the background, together with a slightly sweet chocolate smack. One sip and you will taste why this Absinthe is something special: A Historical Dedication.

I have been wanting to go on a date with the green fairy for awhile. My friend also said it's not a normal alcohol buzz. He said it's very relaxing.

Yes it is definitely a different sort of buzz. I don't drink enough to get drunk. I have found that is an energetic type of a buzz kind of like alcohol on caffeine. There is no way to really give it a good description.
