I just came across this pretty sweet band (if you can tolerate olde school bluegrass/folk). I heard about them on National Public Radio, their name is The Holy Modal Rounders. Their best song is Hesitation Blues and its one of the first if not the first popular song to actually use the word "psychedelic" in it. Pretty sweet stuff, but other good artists:

Anything with Les Claypool
Battles
Peace.

Yeah seriously, 311 was my favorite band in 5th grade. Zeppelin was my favorite in 7th grade.
