6. probably from looking at the jars too much, too much light stalls em out, check once a week instead of once a day
Yeah light has nothing to do with stalling jars. RR keeps them in open light shelves as many others do.

Pint jars are bad because they are taller than they are wide. The substrate compresses under it's own weight, making it less airy and thus more likely to stall.
Light has nothing to do with colonization. Light, dark, it doesn't matter.
You don't want too many spores in your substrate, you should use the absolute minimum amount of spores that gets it inoculated. I have explained the reason to this maybe a dozen times in the last two weeks, and I really can't be bothered to explain it again. Use the search function.
With liquid culture you can use more inoculant, but not too much, or you will screw the moisture content.

I'm a big fan of satire. this top 10 is a list of all the things that went wrong for me personally as I go thru my 1st growing (learning experience) It's meant to be funny.
Thanks so much to Roadkill and Roger Rabbit for sharing your knowledge. it has helped me tremendously.
If you like Pint Jars, more power to you. If you are brand new, lurking and trying to get a grasp of this whole growing thing, this post was to be a funny warning. (follow the 'lets grow mushrooms' videos exactly or else.

yeah tall sucks. I found a bunch of plastic one pints super cheap that are like the half pints short and fat. I tried tall ones years back and always ended up birthing and scrapeing the uncolonized stuff off :/ so slow then would stall and no growth for a month before I'd get tired of it
-------------------- I agree totally. However, this forum isn't for the experienced growers, because they already know the ropes. It's for the new growers who are just starting out. Sometimes the hardest part about learning something new is un-learning bad info. That's why I tend to correct people for calling a substrate tray a 'casing', etc. RR everything I say is a lie on here.
