I don't understand that.

What's in the epicenter? Google?

And what's on the fringes?

Is there any keys or description on this?

Basically, all major global municipalities are in the center...and it goes from there.
The structure also reflects government/educational/industrial sub-networks.
The closer the structure is to the center, the more bandwidth it uses.
All in all, by physical weight, about 1 to 1.5 ounces worth of electrons go through the internet a day...now just think about that for a second.

The epicenter are I think 6 Cisco servers, to direct IP traffic.  Not up on the technical stuff, but it's a psuedo US government agency.

Google didn't come till way later, in the late 90s.

That is pretty friggen sweet. It would be way cooler if it was a three dimensional model that I could rotate and zoom. To me the internet seems way bigger than what I can see it that pic.

Only a short time until it becomes sentient and decides to wipe humanity out.

You can see the neurons making new connections and firing faster and faster.

The Internet is bound to become self-aware some day.

It used to sound nuts (maybe still does) but how could it not? Once it understands itself all bets are off.

How did sentient beings arise from inert matter?

Unrelated... a single brain cell is not aware, but link billions of them together to form a human brain, and thats another story.

A single computer is not aware, but link billions of them together, maybe something unexpected could happen.

I'm not saying its possible or even likely- I'm just saying that I don't think its IMpossible.

I think the only way it could happen is if someone developed a program that utilizes the networking capacity of the Internet to emulate sentience. It would basically have infinite knowledge....or at least, the combined knowledge of all of humanity.
