Psilocybe Cyanofriscosa grow

SWIM received a friend in CA who collected the print at the beginning of this year and started a indoor tub. First spores were scraped into liquid culture. Then after LC was developed enough, it was poured into a mix of used caapi , new alder chips, rye grass seed, shredded cardboard, and MHRB powder. The rhizos love the caapi more than alder. This grew out slowly over the summer and was transfered into the tub where it is sitting now in a closet that has a window and is 50F at all time spring and summer, SWIM lives at 9000 feet + in the mountains atm. Then the tub was cased with a mix like Waylit mentions in the woodlovers thread. Last week SWIM found pins growing. Now SWIM must wait a little more for them to mature.

Great! So it works to take the wild print right to LC skipping agar work?

Why should it not? It's only necessary if you want to isolate parts of mycelium and transfer them to the liquid culture. As long as the LC offers the equal nutrients as an agar medium the spores will germinate in/on either. Makes logical sense to me.

The question is if the prints are clean enough. Seems so. I know mold is not a big problem with wild prints but I thought maybe some bacterial contamination or sth else could occur. I'll consider this route but am not sure if he was lucky or this way usually works.

Maybe SWIM was lucky, SWIY don't know. Except that SWIM has been doing LC with wild collected cube prints and woodlovers, and those prints traded from others this way for about 5yrs now and receive about 85% clean cultures. It's time and paitence, prayers to the Powers that allow SWIM to grow the Shroom. SWIM has been an ally with the Shroom for over 2 decades now, started in 1979 with Dr. Pollack as a teacher in Texas. SWIM worked for Perpetual Gardens back in 1980 before Dr. Pollack was murdered. SWIM uses a flow hood and still air box for different pathways. for this SWIM used the FH to make the LC SWIM feels its hit and miss. Thats why SWIY makes 4 LC jars per print per run

Didn't case with anything, never use casing. Rye seed sprinkled on top of the sub.

Hm, those look very different from the pictures I've seen of friscosa. Much lighter. Might just be the pictures or that they're only pins. Can't wait to seem em finished!

Very interesting grow! Does not appear to be a Psilocybe though. Can you post some more pics of the fruits? What is the spore print color?

Actually, now that you mention it, they look more like pan. cyanescens. Pans aren't woodlovers though as far as I'm aware, so I don't know what they could be.

They resemble some Hypholoma pins I have seen, some images of the mature fruits would be good! inski.

funny, the print came from a certain person here who collected them in CA not pans, and not hyph's, that's for sure. first 50 shrooms sure were the bomb. no way they can be anything else growing in sterilized sub.

Do you have pictures of the finished fruits? Also, did you eat them and trip? That's scary and confusing if you did.

Indeed, I think Duaut should make a post in the Hunting and Identification forum with all the appropriate information, I agree with Alan, it does not look like a Psilocybe species to me! inski.

Yeah, something isn't quite right. They are pretty young though so its hard to be certain. Maybe pick and squish a pin to check for bluing to see if, at least, its an active species. It could be a contaminate mushroom from the environment that was more aggressive than the cyanofriscosa. It happens, especially with lengthy grows.
