Mile69.... I agree for the most part with cannibis to help you sleep, but for myself at least I am not in a sleeping mode until the peak of the high wears off or even after, unless I am quite tired already. A short while after though I can sleep like a baby. It can form a habbit though, I smoked like a chimeny for 2 or so years and when I would be on a long stretch (as usual) and quit I would be quite hyper, almost like on a stimulant, and had trouble sleeping. This is when smoking many times a day though. As you said you have never smoked anything and don't wish to and someone already said to eat it, might I suggest you try vaporizing it?
You don't have to inhale smoke... Just THC vapor and the pure aroma/essence...
mmm MJ It's about 4:20 here.
BlueSky your avatar is now my desktop on stretch 1600x1200 I will put it on display for many people to marvel at.
Peace

How about opium poppies? They're real easy to grow. And opium or poppy tea makes you sleep for a loong time.. with weird dreams. Or so I hear..

valarien. you can buy it over the counter and it works pretty well. smells nasty, but don't let that scare you away. Perhaps a better solution would be to try and figure out why you all the sudden aren't sleeping well and tackle that instead of medicating yourself. Meditation or progressive relaxation might help as well.

Right before you go to sleep, heat up a glass of warm milk. But make sure it's been heated enough. Heating activates chemicals in milk that make you sleepy. Sometimes it helps, but it doesn't always last long.

The same thing in milk that helps you sleep is in turkey. dunno what it is, but eat some turkey & have a glass of warm milk with a fat chronic brownie & pass the fuck out! (oh yeah & kava kava's great too) I'm reading Catch-22 right now which puts me right to sleep (I like it tho)

ive been having insomnia for a long time now...little or no sleep for i dont even know how many years. i do know that it gets worse towards the winter....i think that probably has to do with muscle tension and stuff (i have a really bad back, and my shoulder is pretty bad off....just got out of surgery for the shoulder about a moth ago). anyway i dont know where to begin in conquering the problem, and i defenately dont want to have to depend on somehting to sleep (no habits for me thanks)
i tried the milk thing a while ago...and i do remember the whole turkey thing, but i dont think that stuff would work. though i am going to give it a try.
as far as meditation goes...i could never properly do it. i have this strange habit of projection, as opposed to just calming the nerves. and this whole thing where i cease to exist...its pretty cool if i am feeling down or whetever, but it never seemed to make me relaxed.
i REALLY appreciate everyones help, and i do have some stuff to start trying...i think ill try the whole meditiation thing again, since i can kind of do that stuff anyway i think its a good place to start.
if anyone has any other remedies please let me know.....i am defenately interested in some new ways to help me get rest:)

milk & turkey are rich sources of the amino acid tryptophan; 5-hydroxy-tryptophan (5HTP) is one step closer to the sleep hormone serotonin (and the related melatonin) tryptophan is no longer available in the usa due to a poorly-synthesisized batch several years ago with a dimer contaminant which caused some folks to develop eosinophilia mylagia (a poisoning of certain white blood cells)... 5htp & melatonin are available in most healthfood stores...

I know its not a plant but give melatonin a try. Every time I take it, without fail, I get tired in 20-30 minutes. You can buy it at any drug store or grocery store in the vitamin section. My suggestion would be to start with 3 mg and go up or down from there. Makes for very vivid dreams too.
