Mushroom from Southeast Queensland (Suspected P. subbalteatus)

Hi first time post, after much research my friend believes she may of stumbled across some Panaeolus subbalteatus or possibly its impostor the Panaeolina foenisecii.
The following criteria have been mostly filled out by my friend who has the mushroom.
Habitat: Found in moist dirt were grass has stopped growing, shaded area by the side of a footpath in suburban Southeast Queensland. They were not growing in a tight cluster, but with 5 or so others spread an inch apart or so.
Gills: Dark brown, almost chocolate colouring. very closely packed from stem to edge of cap
Stem: Bruised very dark chestnut brown. rest is dark brown with a slight orange colour. at the end of stem was slightly white with no blue present. The stem is long (about 7cm) and thin (about 3mm), some present of winding stripes along it.
Cap: the stem continues up into the cap about 2 cm then the gills slope out to the edge of the cap. Round shaped, orangey on the very centre. Dark tan coloured with a dusty chocolate ring. when handled, colouring faded and ring dissipated, entire cap became very light chestnut brown.
Spore print color: Dont have a spore print.
Bruising: Bruised very dark chestnut brown as stated in stem section.
Other information: The scent of the mushrooms were described as like any normal supermarket brand mushroom.
Here are three photos of the suspected mushroom:

Any help would be greatly appreciated, sorry about the blurriness of some of the photos, my friend doesnt know how to use the macro setting.
Thanks!

I'd say yes if you have a black spore print.
Sure looks like pan subb.

Cap seems a bit thin and wavy, more pics and the spore print color would be helpful. Use a digital camera w/ macro mode to make clear pics from various angles.
What was it growing off of exactly?

Can you get a clear photo of the gills?
The thinness, as Alan noted, is unusual for Panaeolus, and more suggestive of Psathyrella, but I really doubt that is what they are. Hypholoma is a possibility, but the stipe is really thin for that.

Ahh well shes since those photos for some reason thrown out the mushroom and the area on which we found them has been mowed over
So no new pictures or spore print. But it was growing in moist/muddy soil in response to Alan's post.

But the gill attachment and shape is all off for Panaeolus, or I wouldn't bat an eye.
Maybe a weird variation. Hard to say.

Where are you seeing a gill attachment? The only photo with it has it in shadows.

Shadows and blurry... Gill "attachment" is perhaps an inappropriate description. I mean, the angle and shape of the lamelle in relation to the cap and the stem. Not sure how to better explain. Basically, the angle is really sharp for Panaeolus.

Oh yes, that. I would have said the same thing had I not seen that in a Pan numerous times. Sometimes it's field familarity that helps with ID's.

I'm exceptionally familiar with Panaolus subbalteatus or I wouldn't have made that distinction.
But maybe it is another species of Panaeolus, or different in other areas.

Exceptionally familiar with subbs from your area perhaps. We have that form here. If I ever get around to it I have spores from Hawaii, Florida, Pennsylvania, Ohio and California. I am planning on doing a series of micrographs on each including measurements to look for geographical variations. It should be fun.
There is one tree lawn that produces this form if we get enough rain and the lawnmower doesn't eat them first.
I'd offer to post pics but I have the memory of a gnat sometimes. I didn't photograph them last year. They fruit along a major route. I don't like to be that conspicuous.

Pick them and photograph elsewhere, if you can next time. I would like to (clearly) see the gill structure.
