Tropicaire Humidifier Air Exchanger http://www.amazon.com/IMAGINE-GOLD-Tropicaire-Humidifier-Exchanger/dp/B000634980
I picked up one of these after reading mixed reviews on the board. I have to set up my fruiting chambers all over again because of a trich outbreak so I figured this might be fun to try and use.
ANyone used this? Got anything to say?

There is quite a few ppl with them. I have one mines modified though. I like it works nice.
I took the lid... and where the hose connects to the lid... drilled it out. Then I tacky glued two hoses in there. So it would work for multiple tubs. Tacky glue is great air tight seal.. I can still remove it if I want to add two more hoses.. or just add one more.

Thats a badass mod. You should link me to a tutorial on that if you have one. I got mine for 12 bucks off ebay, since im having to replace all my old FC stuff (contam problems)
Do you just use it as a sole source of humidity?

I personally think it is kind of a rip off if you have a decent sense of ingenuity. To each his own though.

I had one and I wasn't a fan. I was able to get a small ultrasonic humidifier for the price of that Tropicaire plus the shipping you would pay.

I mist also, but I have better results with it. I leave it on 24/7. My tubs r in a closet... which hinders the FAE.
A tutorial.. isnt needed its not difficult. The reason why I mainly did it was because the plastic nipple broke... N i thought well.. Lets use this for more than one tub. So I went n bought more hose. Then I just drilled it out with about a 1/8" drill bit. maybe a 1/4". I dont remeber.
I placed all the hoses in the whole. Made sure they didnt have tension. Placed tacky glue around hole. Let it dry. Then I set it up. If you have 4 or so hoses... you can up them all in one tub if you dont have 4 tubs going.
I wanted to try a ultrasonic, I have some kind of old school humidifer laying around I could convert with garden hose though. Tropicaires work best with air tight seals... n when they run all the time. Humidity is only good if you have fresh air remeber that, otherwise it becomes stale.

To clarify, you modified the humidifier, made it have four hoses and used that to humidify four different tubs at once? Sounds amazing. Did you use perlite or anything else besides fanning and misting?
Also, what was your humidity at using just the humidfier?
edit: Also, is it loud?

I made a similar set up using cheaper parts.
However!
Why not just use a splicing and put airstones in water within the chamber PMP style?
Having made a DIY tropicaire thing I kind of just wish I bought some LECA and made it a lot simpler.

I just read reviews that the thing only keeps humidity at 60%
and that I have to supply my own air pump. Whats the point?!

I use a Tropicaire in my modified mini shotgun FC and without perlite I am able to maintain a steady 75% humidity. Sometimes it even bumps itself up to 80% if the ambient humidity raises in the house. I think they are great and you can get them cheap if you look around. You could build one I know, but I'm to lazy for trying to be Mcguyver.

Man I hardly consider $20.00 after shipping for the unit itself a rip off, but that's just me. Besides, there are plenty of other things in this hobby to keep you busy instead of trying to jerry rig a simple humidifier.

That unit doesn't come with a pump. All your paying for is that plastic container that has two holes in it, (that you can drill yourself). You can buy "T-valves for 4.00 a pack of 12. Tubing is another 2.00. So there you have it. 6.00 total to make that piece of crap.
