Any of you Canadian mycophiles use birdseed? ive been trying to find a good cheap birdseed without cracked corn and other undesireables, but have had no luck so far. Any suggestions? i'm looking for cheap, available, and shakeable!
thanks

The racccoon is not in Canada, but any brand of cheap white & red millet based wild bird seed mix will work - fine. IMHO, A tiny tiny bit of cracked corn in the mix makes no diff. Sunflower seeds add nutes for later & carry no more contam's than millet does. Leave dry floating empty hulls & husks in to, they add lignin & cellslose. It all gets sterilized - anyway - if you do it right.

Thanks 6T, unfortunately that's essentially the method that i have been using lately without any success at all. I contacted my local co-op to inquire about treated grains, and they said that all of their grains have been treated with a fungicide for some sort of mold. I've been trying lots of diiferent brands lately without any success at all. I'd like to get the name of a tried and true fungicide-free birdseed that i will have no suspicions of, so that i can conclusively eliminate "bad grain" as the source of my problems.
Thanks a lot for the tek though!
Any Canucks out there?
Cheers, Feet

Somebody once told me to find a pet store that carries supplies for exotic birds. I did and found that they carry plain millet w/ no other seeds. Twas cheap indeed, about $1.50US per pound which is well worth it in my book. That's where i would suggest to look. It worked for me, my birds love it!!
