Ok so I just bought a used mini-fridge about a week ago, and I put some petri dishes in there and they got a lot of condensation on the lids..is this due to temp?? Any info would greatly be appreciated! Thanks

The temperature change would cause condensation yes. It happens to all of my dishes when I take them out of my lab and put them into the fridge, they instantly cloud over with condensation within minutes.
You could put a bottle of water in your fridge and leave it overnight and test the temperature of the water to be sure your fridge is the right temp though.

That is one juicy petri!! Maybe not so good from a mycological stand point but artistically that is a pretty cool image.

Dude...I totally forgot to take a picture, doing it right now
Alright well my camera is dead. But my condensation is the same as when you pour your dish and you get your condensation afterwards...its minimal. But its also no more then 64F in my house at the moment, so it hasn't got a long way to go to get to my fridge. Its 78 in the lab but I let it in here for a bit..then move it to the fridge. Maybe follow up on PC's idea...he's got a good idea (well from RR that is).

Yea... condensation always happens to my petris when I put them in the fridge and also when I put um in the incubator. RR said that if you put your petris in the fridge its good to put them into a cooler and then stick that in the fridge so they take longer to cool down... I guess it helps with the condensation.

Yes its because of the temp. The dewpoint was reached and the amount of airbourne moisture was too much for the colder temp. That's sort of the reason why I wrote the "Humidity Differential" program.
Plus in a container a state of "Dynamic Equilibrium" is reached. Where evaporation rate is equal to condensation rate.
