Costa Rica - Cordyceps!

Just returned from Costa Rica. We were on the western coast near the southern town of Dominical. It's the dry season there so there weren't many mushrooms, but I did find this Cordyceps species fruiting from a golden ant. The ant was attached to a leaf at about eye-level.

A living golden ant:

There were a few mushrooms out:

Found this crawling up the side of my bed on my first night there. Apparently, it has an extremely painful sting but it doesn't require medical treatment.

An enormous grasshopper:

Lots of bugs, monkeys, sloths, toucans and good surf... Costa Rica is awesome!

Scout, I think you're one of the top photographers on this site. The lighting is fantastic, are you using an off-camera flash for some of them? The lighting under the canopy must be pretty low-level.
Nice view from the pool too.

Thanks for all the positive feedback on the photos- I'm glad you guys like them.
Like you guys, I'm learning about photography and trying different approaches. Truthfully, the best photos owe a lot to luck. My most effective technique is taking a ton of shots. That way, one or two are bound to turn out good.
BTW, I didn't tan, just burned.

Your photos get better all the time. I'd agree with BoulderBoomer, you are one of the best. Just like you I bank a ton of shots to get a few good ones.
I asked about the tanning because I thought you might burn. I know when I end up someplace foreign I sometimes forget the sun. A painful burn can ruin a good time. Thanks for commenting on it. Hope it didn't spoil anything.
