Now Home Office drugs adviser wants to downgrade LSD from A to B

Prof Nutt is chairman of the Government's Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs, which is set to recommend that ecstasy should be downgraded from A to B.
In a radio interview last year, months before he became chairman of the council, Prof Nutt disclosed that he also favoured downgrading LSD from A to B.
He said: "There are several drugs that are in class A and probably should not be there, like ecstasy and LSD. There are other drugs that should be up the scale.
"Ecstasy and LSD which tend to cause little dependence and relatively moderate degrees of personal damage are probably too highly classified."

yeah i tottally agree with this, no way is lsd anywhere near as harmfull as the rest of the class a drugs,it probably pysically safer than most of the drugs in any of the classes.

With the exception of magic mushrooms, I'd say. At least the UK has cannabis in Class B. Much more logical than the US schedule, although it's my belief that it shouldn't be scheduled at all (along with all the other drugs).

I doubt he's going to have any meaningful impact so long as Jacqui Smith is warming a political chair.

How are magic mushrooms safer than lsd? Are you just using the natural argument or do you actually have evidence to support this claim?

I didn't say they were safer, but I wouldn't claim that LSD is much safer than psilocybin. I'd say they're equally safe to consume and that both should be rescheduled.

ok gotcha. I'd include mescaline with those as well as some of the safest drugs to consume.

It is really difficult to define what is "safe" or "dangerous" when it comes to drugs. There are plenty of factors on pharmacological, sociological, and psychological levels when it comes to drugs and what makes them dangerous. In other words, it comes down to purity, education, the type of person using it, and what they are doing. This means the danger of drugs are not limited to scientific factors, but to individual people.
Check out the link in my sig for rescheduling nicotine; it lists the bullshit factors which put substances in schedule 1.

Yes, that's true. Sort of like there are no dangerous drugs, only dangerous people. Really, the most dangerous part of doing heroin is getting something with a vastly different purity than you're used to (i.e. mis-dosing). This is another perfect reason why we need to legalize drugs, regulate them (restricted for purchase until a certain age or licensing and have them labeled with accurate purities), and put tons into educating people (truly educating people, not spewing D.A.R.E. bullshit down their throats) about their risks. At least that's my take on it.

The guy who heads this committee, (David Nutt) was against classifying wet magic mushrooms as class A in 2005 and was against the fact it should be at class A wet or dry. I guess LSD would be a gateway drug in a different sense, if he got LSD downgraded he could get psilocybin and mescaline downgraded.

I wouldn't hold your breath. Drugs advisors are there simply so that politicians can completely ignore what they say. See: Cannabis Re-Classified as Class B against all the government's commissioned advice.
