What Pink Floyd Record?
    #98179 - 11/05/99 01:29 AM (24 years, 4 months ago)

Hey, I had this funny idea that we could list every Pink Floyd record we can think of to confuse any would be listeners out of purchasing any of their music. Thanks for your help in this evil plan.

Either The Dark Side of the Moon or the Wall. Both of these are just totally mind blowing. I guarantee that after you trip to any pink floyd album, you will almost immediately start a collection of their cd's
shifty

My vote is definitely for "Piper at the Gates of Dawn"

Shortly after that incredible, psychedelic album, they lost their creative genius Syd Barrett, and ever since then they went downhill, just coasting on his brilliance. They tried to make up for it with orchestral sounds & big stadiums & pomp, trying to re-capture it, but never quite succeeding.

PacoDG: What is this Wizard of Oz trick, with Dark Side?

Anyone seen that movie 'The Valley' that Obscured by Clouds is supposed to be the soundtrack for? (right?) Is it worth checking out?

Ok that's a bit unfair, but if you're like most people and all you've ever heard of P.Floyd is 'the Wall' or 'Dark Side of the Moon' ... check out the early material - you don't know what you're missing!

A real good one is "wish you were here". and the trick with oz is you start an ORIGIONAL dsotm cd right before the lion growls and everything goes together. It's right when the actual music starts when the credits start

I would have to say that Momentary Lapse of Reason is supurb on acid. so i'd imagine it'd be just as great on shrooms. actually I think any Floyd would be great on any psychedelic.

The post up there is right, once you trip out listening to Floyd you do start a collection.
Mine consists of Wish You Were Here, Dark Side Of The Moon, The Wall, Momentary Lapse of Reason, and Division Bell.
The Wall is the only one I have had for more than 5 months.

#1 Wish you were here
#2 Dark side of the moon

Early Alan Parsons is a really good mix
with early Floyd, I guess because Parsons
was the mixing engineer for the classic
early floyd albums?

Hey INBETWEEN it seems as if everyone has given you a list of the entire Pink Floyd collection. I have 15 Pink Floyd albums so I may be able to help you out.

Dark Side - Classic; backbone of Pink Floyd's fame; allows you to float away

The Wall - Groove filled beats, very rebellious and packed with strong emotion; I listen to this album when the world isn't going my way

A Suacerful of Secrets - My favorite; very dark and bass oriented; puts you in a dark cave with only your mind to keep you company

Obscured By Clouds - Upbeat and creative; Floyd's most underrated album

Wish You Were Here - this album grows on you; it's very reflective and powerful

Piper at the Gates of Dawn - Pink Floyd's first album; IF YOU DON'T LIKE LATE 60'S BRITISH ROCK THEN DON'T GET THIS ALBUM.

This should give you a good start. You can't go wrong if you start with Dark Side or the Wall. Trust me, once you listen to those two, you'll be hooked like all the rest of us. I bought all of my Pink Floyd albums in a span of 3 months!

Good luck

Excuse me, but I think I heard you say that you don't like British bands? I'm not really trying to criticize you or anything, but some of the best rock n'roll that has ever been produced has come from Britain. The Beatles, The Who, The Stones, Clapton. Hell, Jimi got his start out there cuz noone in America could even imagine listening to a black man. I guess if you don't really like rock, I could see this. Floyd was a product of the rock revolution, but they're pretty much in a category all of their own. But anyway, like everyone has already stated, just about any Floyd album rocks. Once you hear em, you're hooked, or at least everyone I've ever conversed with shares this opinion. I don't really think I could pick a favorite; it all just depends on the mood I'm in as to what to listen to. One really cool trick, though, concerning the synchronicity with Dark Side and the Wizard. Try playing Wish You Were Here with the movie Its A Wonderful Life. Same way to set it up, start it at the third lions roar. I've heard that it goes with the movie even better than the Dark Side one. I haven't actually tried it yet, but the site I found it at gave a lot of very interesting "synchronicities". There's supposedly a bunch of other old classic movies that go well with Floyd albums. I don't remember what the site was, but just search for "synchronicity" or something and you might find it. I guess the Wish You Were Here one is the best, along with the Dark Side, and the other movies just kinda work, but they still might be cool to try out sometime.

the other supposed synchronous floyd/movie trick is the song "echoes", from the album Meddle, that goes with the end sequence to 2001:a space oddesy(sp?). Starts where the title "Jupiter and Beyond" comes on.

These are neat little tricks, but I prefer to stick with just the music and have the video happen in your head. Meddle is truly the best of the lesser known PF albums. Any new floyd fan should definitely check that one out. Echoes is contoured like a trip itself.

i cant believe no one mentioned atom heart mother! lots of intrumental stuff, Fat Old Sun and AHM are amazing songs. not really a good starter album, tho. Animals is another really great one, you should check it out after dark side. you really cant go wrong with any floyd, although i dont like the stuff after Waters left as much.

Animals and wish you were here are really good albums...

Animals is based on George Orwells book "Animal Farm" and Wish you were here is about Syd Barret...
