Japanese Fast Food Joints

Here is a funny and interesting write up on Japanese fast food.  I'm actually impressed with the seasonal offerings at a lot of the places.

there was a Japanese fast food place in Midtown near my old job. One of the weirdest places Ive ever stepped into. Flashing lights and weird signs all over the place, with some baseball player figured prominently in all of the displays of fried pork cutlets. Two chefs in the back scream "thank you, have a nice day" over and over again. Special 50 cent breakfast cutlets... too weird for me...

Did you see the comments bellow the article?  Somebody says the dough is chewy and awful, and the cheese tastes like plastic lol.  It looks plasticy.

Gotta love the spicy chicken donuts.  I was in Japan a few years ago and went to a mister donut a few times.  I could never figure out why they had a poster in their window with some Japanese girl sweating profusely while eating a donut with some sort of weird chunky filling squirting out, must have been snacking on a spicy meat donut

I had a dream about a Japanese fast food place the other day. Everything was written in Japanese, and the line was moving too fast for me to figure out what the hell it all meant, so I through my tray on the ground and stormed out.

A spicy meat or chicken doughnut actually sounds damn good to me.  Reminds me of an empanada or glazed Jamaican beef patty.

That's a pretty realistic encounter of what it would be like if you tried to navigate something so foreign and frustrating as Japanese fastfood lol  Too bad you missed out on the quail egg oyster curry.

Natto is great! I don't see why they had to dig on it twice.

Too bad I can't have about any of that stuff, but I'd just like to say that if any of you haven't had an unagi don yet please get one. Broiled eel is one of my favorite foods ever. Unfortunately the BBQ sauce contains gluten and most eel sold around here comes with it already slathered on. Uwajimaya offers LIVE eel but I don't feel like dealing with that right now. Maybe some day. The sauce shouldn't be too hard to recreate because it's just a mild nutty mesquite tasting thing. BTW prepare to eat hundreds of tiny little rib bones.

I thought it was weird the author had such hate for natto, especially with how popular it is

I love Unagi Don.  That's one of my favorite Asian meals, especially when they're nice an liberal with the unagi and I've got a cup of hot chili oil.

There was a Japanese restaurant in Elyria, Ohio that was actually quite shitty but their unagi don was awesome. They gave you like a pound and a half of eel. I'm also crazy about unagi sushi but that's just the same thing in "fun-size".
