no personal experience but ive heard weird stories from many people.. they all really believed something supernatural took place.
one friend of mine said they asked a spirit how they were moving the little thingy and the spirit replied that they werent actually moving it but sort of like posessing the participant's minds and very subtley channeling their body movements.
i have no idea myself...
i know that people will believe what they want to believe, but that's not an answer

i dont think i'll ever try it... looks quite scary indeedy. i think its a channelling related practice too, like Grav mentionned. heh. for that only reason i will never play around with it. some consider it as a game- im not sure how to define oui-ja myself - but it is from the kind of stuff that i wouldnt try, to avoid useless troubles lol.

Yes, they appear to work - two acquintencas whom I trust not to lie (ofcourse they can) assured me it appears to work - and is at least consciously not made up.
Just like tarot cards and I Tjing can be the manifested synchronicities Jung and M. L. von Franz wrote about but with a more 'usable' interface. Just like other oracles, or maybe even more so they can be WYSIWYG; self-deluding... or it can bring you closer to your higher self. If messages appear they appear to come from somewhere deep in your unconscious or superconscious... so far removed from your waking consciousness that you might think a different entity is speaking to you.. and in a way of course this is true - like we are all one and seperate at the same time.
One very curious example of the use of the Ouijja board in this day and age I found to be the Cassiopaean channelings... I don't necessarily believe what they write about our reality being Matrix like and that there is a hidden meaning or plot underlying the worldscene, and that all of us can be Matrix vectors - but it is interesting that the material is akin to what Steiner, Castaneda and Gurdjieff have been saying. More interesting I think it is that they somehow attract people that can write a bit more balanced and serious then most new age mumbo jumbo channel lovers:

Because of the situation in the US at the moment, which they see as the final stages of the Matrix Control System getting in line for the big fight for our collective consciousness they decided to move to Europe and put their house up in a lottery (chance: 1/4000). they work even better when every one is drunk. and the ones that glow in the dark are suposed to channel the most energy because of the chemicals that make them glow. but you know what makes them work the best.... is when you move them yourself and everybody around you believes that is is a spirt or somthing moving it. it is fun but you have to be very careful not to get caught or then every body else will stop believeing in them like I do.....

*edit: I looked on my antique board and indeed the instructions say two people.
It won't work otherwise..
Both people will claim not to be moving it when one asks "Are you moving it????" but really someone always is.

 i personaly have had very bad expreiences with these things and they DO work
if your going to do it then please make sure u do it the COMPLETELY correct way ,else u may release any kind of evil entity on this world and they can do alot of bad stuff most likely the one who released it in the first place
