When do you remove the saran wrap from the container of your casing? are you suppose to replace it between flushes? thanks

You take it off when you put it in ur terrarium. If your in incubation state, dont change it. Read up FAQ

Take off the plastic when your casing is fully colonised. No you don't have to replace it between flushes, some people like to mist their casings between flushes. But regardless of what you like to do between flushes, you don't got to put the plastic back on.

remove it as soon as you start to see mycelium growth in the valleys of your casing. im talking underneath it even, as soon as its poking through, this way overlay wont develop... good luck

I thought that taking a casing out of incubation and inducing pinning when it isn't 100% colonized will cause an uneven pinset?

1/2 way true. I have heard both sides to that. Just personal preference.

100 % colonized casing means OVERLAY. You get very few mushrooms from this.

You initiate your casing when mycelium has peaked through the surface at multiple points seen around the entire area of the casing surface. This increases the likelyhood that the mycelium has colonized throughout the subsurface layers of the casing layer. You want the casing soil to be colonized, but not the casing soil surface!!!

Look at the PICTURE in TMC of the large bulk tray of pasteurized cased straw. You wont see any Mycelium at the surface of the casing. ONLY FAT SHROOMS.

You wait for the mycelium to PEAK out at multiple spots, to know that it has PROBABLy made it's way up to the surface everywhere, but not on the surface.

If you can consistently lay down an even casing layer upon an even substrate, and you KNOW how long YOUR particular substrain, of the Strain you are growing takes to colonize right up to the surface, but not on the surface. INITIATE BEFORE it comes out on to the surface.

Wait to see some surface coloniztion, peaking out, if you don't know how long it takes! It is better to get A LITTLE to much surface growth, then to initiate to early, and get an uneven pin set!!! So the more you know your strain(substrain) the less mycelium you need to see on the surface of the casing layer!!

When people with experience refer to 100%, they tend to be talking about the subsurface layers of the casing, NOT THE SURFACE.

teonan tells the truth.
If you let your casing over colonise it will overlay in the fruiting chamber.
overlay thought isn`t as bad as i is made out to be.
Your first flush should still develop, leaving you to harvest scratch and recase.
Basically making the overlay irrelivent.
