I'm 23 and can hear it faintly when I turn the speakers all the way up. It sounds like a really soft constant buzzing sound. I'm surprised that I can hear it at all. I have tinnitus in both ears.

don't you think that the various speakers people have completely ruins the experiment?
sorry, just my honest opinion.
just like mics, speakers have a wide range of frequencies.

Gumby said: I'm going to tell you what I'm doing in the least geeky terms possible. I'm trying to get an idea of how many people on The Shroomery can hear a 19KHz sound.
I've uploaded a sound clip. Its a 3 second clip of a 19,000Hz tone and I want you to listen to it. "WTF does that mean?" you may ask. Well, as you get older, you ability to hear high frequency sounds lessens by several thousand kilohertz. It's natural and can't be avoided.
Participating in the experiment is retardedly easy. All you have to do is click the play button next to the mp3 file, or download it and listen to it. If your browser doesn't support streaming audio, listen to it in your music player. After that, just vote in the poll.
If you're over the age of say, 23, you probably won't hear a damn thing other than a few clicks or pops. If you're younger, you're supposed to hear an incredibly high pitched noise that is just ear piercing at loud volumes (if you're younger, at least turn your speakers down to half way).
Myself? I just hear some clicking and popping. My neighbors dog? He stops barking when I crank that shit up all the way. Awesome against yappy dogs.
I couldn't hear it off the shroomery but when i downloaded and put it in windows media player i could.
its not too bad a sound tho
full volume didnt injure me too bad. i could listen to it but having it on all night would def drive me insane

Yeah that definitely messes things up. People playing the sound on shitty laptop speakers don't stand a chance at even producing the sound, much less hearing it.

Heres some interesting data. I tried it as I woke up, and could barely hear it, but could still "sense" it. Like, I couldnt hear it per say, but still felt irritated.

I'm 19, didn't hear anything but loud music and many shows has led to worse hearing for sure. When i get back to my dorm room, ill try again from my good speaker set-up.

Funny. I hear absolutely nothing.
My gf siting next to me got a quizzical look on her face and said: "yes of course I hear it.." then looked at me like I was a retard.

If your dogs aren't hearing it then your speakers probably aren't producing 19KHz.
