I would imagine it would be great for hydrating bulk substrates like coir or manure. Definitely worth a shot.

Actually, now that I think about it, hippie, the main guy over at mycotopia uses a version of worm tea in his supercake recipe. He adds 2 tablespoons kelp extract and a cup of worm castings to 2.5 gallons of lake water, and then adds a whole shit load of other stuff as well. Seems to be very beneficial. Check it:

(Sorry if linking to other mycoforums is not allowed...don't see why that would be the case though.)

Worm castings alone work great. No need for a tea, but I'm sure it wouldn't hurt either way.

I eyeball everything, but I'd guess it's between 1-2 cups of castings per 8-10 quarts of bulk sub I use. Mix it in well with the bulk sub before pasteurizing.

i do add worm castings alone to my bulk sub, but if you watched the video they actually "brew" the tea to ;purposely increase the aerobic bacteria. good for plants. just wondered if all that bacteria could have any benefits to certain other fungi species.

Eatyualive has been using the supercake formula minus the brewing part. He uses:
1 teaspoon of nutritional yeast, 1 tablespoon bee pollen, 1 tablespoon flax seed, 1 tablespoon shredded coconut meat/flour, 1 tablespoon blue corn meal, 1 tablespoon coarse yellow corn meal, 1 tablespoon of powdered/ground kelp meal, 1 tablespoon of cottonseed meal
he mixes the ingredients dry ahead of time in large batches, then adds it (still dry) to his bulk sub during spawning. I think he uses like a 1/4 cup or less of the mix per tub and says he's doubled his yields. Maybe he'll chime in to make sure I got all that right.

Yea, I think for people who don't have a lot of space to go bulk, it could definitely be worth the effort to get bulk results from cakes. Also, I've heard it speeds up the colonization time considerably.

i double up the ratios of bee pollen and kelp meal in that mix. so 2 tables of each. mix it all up in a bag. stick it in the freezer dry. then when its time to spawn. measure out 1/2 cup for my 2 bins. thats 1/8 cup per turkey tin i use to pasteurize in.
or 1/4 cup per tub.
tripled my yield first time i tried it. from 4 to 12z. blew me away.

so your saying you add 1/4 cup of this mixture to your normal bulk material or this mixture exclusively?

He adds the mix to his bulk sub. Spawning to a tub of that mix exclusively would probably contam real quick.

I add worm castings to unpasturized straw or sawdust and find that the majority of the time the natural flora in the wormcastings is able to ward off contamination during colonization of bulk substrates. That is for fast colonizers such as Pl. ostreatus or P. cubensis ect. ect. I always add it to my sterilized sawdust mixtures as well and find that it changes the flavor of the fruitbodies for the better.
Good stuff!

Eat, are you a poo or a coir kinda cultivator?
I do coir, would it be advised to remove the coffee from the sub if I were to add these ingredients?

what do you think of replacing the cottonseed with whole psyllium husks?
and where did you come into a concoction like this? it seems random
