Casing death?
    #980243 -

My friend made two casings of two cakes each. They've been incubating for about three weeks now with little to no growth. it was his first time, so he just used straight vermiculum. Can the casings just be dead? I've heard mention of dunking casings. How is that done? Thanks.

Well no water is used , All you do is put the top on, or tin foil and place in fridge for 12-24 hours.

The procedure describe above is cold shocking, not dunking. Concerning your slow growth rates, there could be many factors contributing to it. My guess is that after three weeks of little to no growth, you're probably facing a contaminant of sorts. Either that or your tray has dried out. Have you been misting it on a regular basis?

My FOAF's casing has run out of top mycellium. It has already had several flushes but he feels it can have some more.
Should he mist in order to get some mycellium back?
Or should he just cold shock it, as the last shrooms fruited on a top mycelliumless casing?
Or one and then the other?
Or what?
Or else?

To begin with, he did not mist. He has begun to within the last week. Is it that the substrait under the casing is too dry, or you think it's proabably contams?

(I know it's hard to say without looking... but no odd colors, but also didn't look under casing)
