You have to download Janis Joplin's "Summertime". Killer song, great for any trip. The way the tempo/mood changes...i always end up playing it real loud

"Grey" by Alexander "Skip" Spence, off the album "Oar."
weird, spooky, very trippy, from a guy who unfortunately went over the edge shortly after recording the album.

Anything Ween CDs, particularly Pure Guava or Chocolate and Cheese, they are also classics. I hear The Dead Milkmen is a good band too.

...The last one I said was "fucked up" in a bad trip sort of way which seemed to be what you are going for with the choices you mentioned. I also have some "good fucked up" stuff, like most of FSOLs Lifeform's CD. Try "Vit".
Or the Aeon Flux soundtracks- that's pretty weird...

Hey GRTRUD, I'm only a young 'un but I love that retro shit. :)
The Doors, Santana, Quicksilver and Peter Gabriel are awesome, but nobody comes close to Traffic. :)

Yeah I saw Traffic with the Dead at RFK Stadium a year sober and when Traffic and The Dead played together, I was getting off on a natural trip. There were all these ballons floating around the whole time the show was going on and they were getting batted around, you know the usual stuff, all over the stadium but then, as the bands started to melt together in one of the tunes they were playing (I'm embarrassed to say I've forgotten now) but all of a sudden the ballons just started collecting together and they swarmed and came towards the stage in a kind of frenzy, in time with the music! It was fucking great! I was really scared that sober I wouldn't connect anymore with what was going on there, and if that happened I don't know what I would have done cause it was (still is) a large part of ME. What a great experience.
Thanks for your reply.

Sheesh, way too much to read ;-) tokend?sen: the cds from barrett weere made to trip to and all, but they basicly suck :-(
Find some songs from Talvin Singh. Its like a weird, tripped out, dance/african type thing. Check it out, you won't be disapointed lol.
Look for 'Sutrix', 'Eclipse', and 'Traveller'. Those are some of my favorites... ;-)
I think everyone should go check these songs out actually :-P There just whacked out!

Wow...I can't believe noone mentioned some of these bands:
-Catherine Wheel(fully endorsed by Pink Floyd as being the next Pink Floyd..if you have never heard them, you're missing out!!)
-The Jesus and Mary Chain
-Fiona Apple does a mind boggling cover of the Beatles 'Across the Universe'
-Stone Roses
-Radiohead
-The Pixies(the forerunners of grunge, with better lyrics)
-If you have a DVD player, the Bjork collection...trippy as hell
-Beastie Boys criterion DVD--in 5.1 stereo...whoah
-Wings 'Band on the Run'
-Siguesigue Sputnik
-Joni Mitchell
-Peter Frampton
-Beatles white album, Revolver, Magic Mystery Tour...hell all post '65 Beatles!!!

Pink Floyd Ummagumma--period...well actually it kinda has a repetitive beat on some of the Live Songs...um some people suggested: Coil: The Golden Section -- if u really like disturbing music...its kinda hardcore so u better be ready to do it on a trip its just demented

Shit, didn't think I'd get this many replies, but anyway, thanks for all the suggestions. I've listened to alot of it and some of it is very..heh..interesting..im sure it will grow on me over time! To be honest I wasn't even looking for songs to trip to, just some wierd stuff for when sober..but I've noticed that some of the best stuff to listen to high and tripping is also the best stuff to listen to sober. Anyway keep 'em coming, remember the more fucked up the better. Anything that defies the word music significantly is great.. :-p

thor is right
The KLF - Chill Out album is the best trip music CD.
A close second goes to Dr. Paterson's Journey into paradise LSD & dragonfly records records, It was made by someone who worked on the old KLF's chill out album.
http://www.dragonflyrecords.co.uk/index_frameset.htm Go to releases and LSD for more information.

hmm if you want just plain weirdness: try mouse on mars (kinda like aphex twin), coil's "black light district" (dark stuff), zappa's "we're only in it for the money" album (old basic oddness), negativland (muhahaha.. this will confuse you sober most likely), download (especially "effector" & "eyes of stanley pain" albums.. eyes might be a little too noisy or rough for some, effector is happy weirness... it sounds like you're on something whilst listening to it sober), autechre (more uh.. i guess sorta in the same group as aphex twin), depeche mode can be extremely odd (trust me) and if you just want some good layed back happy stuff try kraftwerk, orbital, devo, and without a doubt human league's "fascination" :D all good whilst tripping.. etc.

anything by John Zorn, especially Naked City stuff...a major headfuck. Dissecting Table works well as some other Japanese noise outfits, like Ground Zero. Melt Banana is good, too. Basically, the Japanese make some messed up music. :P
