get with the times. Intel Octocore plus sets the bar for computer performance. I would recommend the Willhelm core!

Runs great. AMD Phenom 2.5Ghz quad core. I have six gigs of ram too.

To be completly honest I know very little about computers. I spend all my time on them though. Mostly gaming, downloading, and watching videos, surfing the net, and doing college homework. My current computer is rather outdated and getting slower by the day. Its a bestbuy compaq presario 512ram 3200 athalon processor 160GB.. nothing special but its slow... Whats the best deal for my dollar? looking for nothing over $800.00usd

I have had no issues yet. I am running onboard vid at the moment and can play most games on low settings. I have 4gb ram though. Running ebooster with another 8gb dedicated to ram.

true, but IMO, go ahead and get the quad core, as it will be more future proof. Sure, you save a hundred bucks going dual core, but waste the 150 whenever apps do come out that use it. Since most apps don't, most of the time my affinity is like:

so a lot of times, the other two are not fully utilized, but for say using some video encoding apps, even mencoder, it will peg all 4 cores at 100%. For about 900 I got

And this think flies...when i build my computers, i normally spend a little more, get stuff that is about 1 generation old, and plan for it to last me 5 years. Most enthusiasts only go 2 or 3, but i would rather spend more and have it last much longer, than save 200 and have to upgrade a year or two earlier...

Also, going from a single core Athlon to this cut my hd video encoding times down from ~18-30 hours to about 4, so great deal.

Quads right now are really only good for video encoding, and generally fun to say you have it. but a 3ghz dual core vs 3ghz quad core will get very similar performance with the majority of applications and operating systems today....however, nothing wrong with looking to the future. If it was me, i would only buy quad core for myself...for my daughter and my wife, i buy dual core, as its more than enough for their computers.

i have q9300 @ 2.5

it works great, i can play games like crysis at very high settings with an Nvidia 9800gt, and 4gs of ram.

or you can go with a 3.0 dual core...

Little on the pricey side...

i7's aren't really that badly priced IMO, but it's hard to find a decently priced mobo for them.

my g/f is saying no to a laptop so i guess its a desktop pc for me... whats a good brand? ive had the normal walmart brands in the past.. but i wanna step it up.. for around 8-9hundred dollars usd. What do you all recomend?

Yeah, of course building is much cheaper. I think with about a day or two's worth of reading/researching, just about anyone could build a computer. Having access to a forum where you can post questions only makes it easier.

Building a computer is like putting together a puzzle, but easier. You just have to do some reading on what kind of puzzle piece to get and where to put it. Oh, and you need to ground yourself so you don't zap the puzzle pieces. :lol:

AMD Phenom Quad core 9500, 2.2ghz with 8Gb memory 64-bit. This runs awesome, no problems with any gaming, or anything. I would just fork out the extra money for a quad, better in the long run imo.

it aint that hard to not get electrocuted. just dont touch the fuckin live wires! turn off the computer! unplug it! check everything three times, make all physical movements comfortable and controlled. Maybe im livin on the edge but im pretty comfortable diggin through a turned on computer and it hasnt killed me yet.

that said, static can hurt the parts too apparently. avoid magnetic skrewdrivers, i think, is an appropriate level of caution

from what ive read i believe i have found a computer that would meet my needs.... on ebay.. check it out here

that said what do you guys think? for moderate gaming... and lots of music downloads and video watching... that should be perfect...
