Nolanea sericea?
    #9788738 - 02/13/09 01:18 AM (15 years, 13 days ago)

Habitat:

Sierra Foothills, maybe 700ft elevation, growing in swampy areas with grass.

Gills:
cream, pale in color when young, i don't remember the attachment, turning brownish with age

Stem:
1" - 1 1/2" long, grayish-white when young turning brown with age, kinda thin like gymnopus dryophilus'

Cap:
brown, hygrophanous, ovate or convex when young, becoming almost umbonate, and eventually becoming umbilicate or depressed with over-maturity.

Spore print color:
Wasn't able to take a sample for print, im fairly sure these are at least Nolanea sp though.
it should be "pinkish-brown"

Bruising:
i didnt feel the need to abuse them.

Nice description, Cptn.  Yes, they are Nolanea.  What makes you think sericea?  I am totally unfamiliar with that species.

I see something like this around a lot, I am always tempted to bring them home and work on them.

You can dry stuff like this out, post it on mushroomobserver.org, then write the observation number on the bag so you can go back to it later on when you get your new scope.

If someone is interested in storing dried specimens without consuming much space, boxes like these are pretty compact.  Here are thousands of dried mushrooms in a 3' x 4' area.

The boxes are a combination of the styrofoam holders and the cardboard mailing sleeves.
Link.
