how creative are children? why/when do they start to become creative? are they creative or just copying behaviors? think of societys problems and how they are all linked to behavior copying....swarm intellegence = humans?
swarm intelligence does not = humans. when do children start to become creative?? thats a pretty good question, i would think from like birth to maybe 6-8 years old (that tends to be the age where there is a lot of drawing and a whole lot of learning going on) see the way i see it is that we, the human race, have individuals that stand out, you have great people, assholes, funny folk, dipshits, spastic people, ADD people, etc etc, but a group of ants doesn't have the asshole they stay from, they don't have the guy they go to hear jokes from (or smell jokes in an ants case), or come to that one ant that has the answers to life.

but how do you know we are creative and not just copying? we have a vaste amount of storage space in our brains, spewing them out if various arrangements and correcting ourselves "due to positive or negitive results" doesn't make us creative does it? i think just really good memorys and our actions based on basic instincts and chance.
in the ant world i mentioned once that the old and the sick work in the "waste disposal department", and in that video posted they carry away the sick, which would indicate they stay away from assholes with colds
i don't think we can be completely certain what insects can/can't all communicate about

Pretty trippy and slightly debunked now that it's fairly older, but it's a very intriguing argument.

you dont know that. unless you either talk with ants, or are an ant yourself.

I love how this thread evolved from a stoner question into an intellectual debate on conciousness.
It was a very interesting read!

Huh, at least you bumped an old thread with an interesting read. I would have never suspected that spiders did any kind of thinking. I thought it was all just instinct.

Spiders are very smart as are most insects. I personally have raised some tarantulas and they can be pretty cunning in their hunting techniques. Even I didnt realize how cognitive they could be until I saw Portia on a documentry. People tend to be self-righteous in their way of thinking and just think animals and plants either run purely on instinct or have no type of consciousness. Hell I just saw a magazine where the cover story was if dogs had feelings or not. Im sure anybody here who has owned a dog knows the answer to that. This is quite intresting also. http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2005/10/1011_051011_spider_vampire.html
