I just can't get my head round why people follow organised religion. Pantheism isn't an organised religion. As far as I know, nobody has 'figured it all out'. Almost ALL Christians would be Muslims if they were born in a predominantly Muslim country. What's the point in that?
Nobody is even a true Christian because everybody has their own ideas about what that means. There are so many flavours and people pick and choose so heavily from the bible that why don't they just pick and choose everything?
Every religious person thinks they have it all figured out, and that everybody else is wrong. I don't think I have it all figured out, I just recognise that everybody can't be right. Which religion? Probably none, who knows. Certainly 99% are wrong!

My reply to that would be, IF there could be a true Christianity, what would it look like, and how would you get there?
It seems to me you would take what THE man said, and do your best to understand the times he lived in, and the language differences, and all of the other nuances that have been either ignored purposefully or overlooked, and add up what you find. Oh yeah, after that, actually apply what He taught you.
"Why do you call me Lord, Lord and do not do what I say?"
Even the man we Christians recognize as God wonders these things
That's what I do. I don't say a Sunday church going, non-neighbor loving, politically charged individual is NOT a Christian, that's not for me to say or even waste time thinking about, but as another poster already so perfectly pointed out,
"Christ did think outside the box, that's why they killed him"
I LOVE the teachings of Christ, they really are a lot deeper and more profound then the middle of the road church slop that most people have gotten all their lives.

I like to think I *try* to follow Christian ideals, it doesn't make me a Christian.
I'm sure Mohammed and countless other prophets had really awesome teachings too. Why not give them a shot?

I have, and do.
One of my favorite saying of Christ is, "my sheep hear my voice, and my voice is truth".
ALL truth is God's. Even the apostle Paul (and later Areosmith) said, "I've learned from fools and from sages alike". So the idea that ALL truth is somehow only in the bible (or church, or THIS one particular church) blows me away.
I've been coming to the shroomery since 1999 as I found it (way back then, and even now) to be one of the lone places in the world where people, for the most part, call it as they see it. There's a lot of other BB's out there, but there's all these rule and whatnot that stifle honesty. In other words, there's a LOT of truth on here.
I fall into the rather small camp that values love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness, & self-control along with mercy and hope. Any teachings that fall in line with that paradigm, I wholeheartedly accept.
I believe there is a God, and I really believe that as a Father (because if he is, that's WHAT he is) it's much less important to get everything "right" and just learn how to love ourselves and others.
And yet we spend so much time on the letter and not the Spirit of the law of love.
My two pennies.

You make fair points. It doesn't sway me toward your particular brand, though.

I have difficulty with this. All my family and friends fall into this camp. It's not small.

Small as in comparison to the amount of hatred and vengence that dominates the world landscape.
For me, it's too small if even one person remains imprisoned by hatred.
We're all different. Trying to force somebody to see "my" way would be like forcing them (albeit on a much deeper and personal level) to "enjoy" a certain favorite dish of mine.
"You better love this homemade BBQ sauce I made of else I will consider you ignorant, look down upon you, say derogatory things about you and anybody else who doesn't recognize the greatness of my sauce, and if you really rile me up, anything from firebombing your home to just plain bombing your country may become options to open your pitifully blind eyes"
Some people don't even like BBQ, not matter how good it is

sorry, didnt feel like reading all 700+ entries, but imo the christian religion is great and so are 80% of its followers...its just the other fucking 20% are fucking fanatical wing nuts
if god gave us a sex drive, he doesnt want us to get married before we fuck
we 100% proved that earth has been around for more than 2000 years
their literal interpretation of the bible, fanatical strictness and general dislike for anyone more moderate than themselves is the reason christians receice such a negative response
that damn 20% of fanatical born again christians just cant mind their own business about abortion and sex...its just fucking annoying and for a religion that preaches tolerance, they are some of the most judgemental ppl ive ever seen
the worst part is that they wave their religion around like its something other than a sacred spiritual thing...when u make ur religion a non-personal thing, u transform it from a religion to a band-wagon

It over-rode the habit patterns of thought and I was able to taste innocence again. Looking at sensations freshly without the conceptual overlay was very profound." - Ram Das
