What is this thing?

The other day I was cleaning up and found this little thing on the ground. I know I've seen something like it before, but, damnit, I can't figure out what it is. It was found under a computer chair... looks like its a little rusted and made out of metal. I have to figure out what this damn thing is because it's driving me crazy
I took some pics of the thing:
... So what the hell is it?

it looks like the screw that is used in glasses. Maybe it is some sort of mind control device.

Maybe it's the fossilized remains of a wooden nail from 10,000 BC?

Or perhaps even some sort of late-neolithic stone nail?

I think we, at least, need to run it through a gas-spectrometer?

But stone doesnt rust. I think it might have come from 1 of 3 things.
1. Computer/Desk chair(has penumatic lift thing) 2. Pelet gun 3. Lighter
It looks like some kind of piston or valve or something like that... but I really just don't know.

Someone should also field stress-test it...

How about not hi-jacking the thread with useless crap? That would be a nice change.

I'd like to see if we could replicate it -- sort of clone it -- for further testing...

It kind of does look like an upholstery nail.
My first thought was the spark-gap from the starter for a gas bar-b-q.

That is very strange indeed. The fact that the second one has a coin attached to it, makes one wonder.
