Same thing with my Mom. Whenever I ask her if she has smoked weed before, the reply is always "yes once, all I did was laugh at everything". Then its just like, 'well then, what the fuck? that most of been just horrible'. Its just one those things with how she was raised.

Both plus potentially more reasons... i'd say the main contributing factor to her opposition towards marijuana, its positives, and legalization is probably due to a generalized ignorance about drugs. At this point in their lives, adults just about have their minds made up. I would say print out some articles and some info courtesy of erowid and have a logical, thought provoking conversation with her.

My mom smoked weed all the time when she was a teenager. Now tho, if i even bring up anything about pot she looks at me like i should be ashamed. Then she talks about how i could just get drunk if i wanted to get messed up. I tell her that i think alcohol is horrible on the body, that i smoke it in place of taking pain pills for my arthritis, and she just rolls her eyes and smokes a ciggarette. She would smoke crack if it was legal and sold in stores i think. some people just can't get past the fact that it is illegal. They have been conditioned since they were kids to beleive that laws are always right. Thank god i am smarter than that. Don't question authority she tells me. HA.

my mom refuses to discuss smoking pot cause like a whole shitload of my relatives got fucked by crack, and she just thinks i'll move on to crazy shit like that. but yeah my parents blazed a bunch when they were younger too. i think part of why your mom doesn't want to discuss it is that she may realize there are many positive points regarding dope smoking and so logically in an argument you will probably win, but she simply doesn't want you smoking for more ambiguous reasons.

some people just plain believe marijuana to be evil, these people will most likely never try marijuana; give them some alcohol in a friend's or family reunion and their in, they're hypocrites.

The situation frustrates me so much that I can't bear to talk about it anymore, much less try to convince one of those lost hopeless fools that cannabis is a health benefit.

Ahh, such simple minds. My mum is like that too, though I love my mum, I can't stand it when I bring up the topic of weed or drugs in general.
I try and have an intelligent conversation on the topic of drugs, and she frowns at me and looks at me and says with concern "Don't go down that road! If you just want to ruin your life well we won't help you."
And get this "If we (mum and dad) ever find out your doing drugs we will write you out of our wills and disown you."
So well, I don't mention it around her anymore.

My mom used to be a daily smoker, but she is on the same bandwagon now. She said it made her paranoid and ruined her memory. I told her her memory probably sucks because she is older and because she believes it sucks, so it will. It's a very self defeating attitude.
I don't really know why she dislikes it otherwise though. She does believe it causes physical harm, aka killing braincells. She won't believe me when I tell her otherwise Same thing with psychedelics.
After my hospital visit I told her I'd gather some information and give it to her for her to read. I'm very surprised at the seemingly complete lack of knowledge doctors have on psychedelics. Oh, my mom is a nurse btw. She should know this stuff but she doesn't seem to have a clue, and that seems, ime, the trend in the health care industry. One of the social workers when I was in the emergency room even told me LSD is commonly laced with strychnine. That really didn't make me feel safe there lol.
Well I don't know when I'm going to do it, but I still plan to compose that paper for my mom. She seemed willing, and even somewhat eager, to read it. I don't know if it'll change her opinion at all, but I'm sure it'll make her rethink some things. I know she'll still say 'Well look at where it's got you,' (referring to the hospital) but if only she could see it from my perspective. Look at where it's gotten me!

I believe you should bring the comversation up again. Just bring it up normally like any other conversation. But here are the rules, you CANNOT under ANY circumstance give your opinion, judge her thoughts, or analyze what she is saying.
Just ask her questions, without any input. If she says "its a bad thing" ask "why do you feel that way" once she answers check to see if you got the right information "so you feel this way because..."
after awhile you'll get all the information you need. do not try to manipulate her, just try to find out what she really feels and believes about the subject.

My parents have both done marijuana, and my father did a lot of psychedelics when he was a teenager.
Neither of them do it anymore though. Since they joined alcoholics anonymous they sort of went pure sobriety. They even gave up smoking, cold turkey. It strengthened their marriage and made them better people, so I can't argue.
They aren't necessarily against the idea of marijuana, but they hold religious positions, so it's important to not be hypocritical or get noticed doing something illegal in their shoes. That's all I'm going to say about that.
However, my dad does say once marijuana becomes legal (eventually it will here in Canada), he might become a recreational user again.

My mom caught me smoking when I was a teen once. Come to think of it she didn't even really punish me that much if at all. I just wasn't able to walk around town with that crowd any more.
My mom admits to smoking pot atleast a few times and says she didn't try acid because she had seen people on it (from the description and time frame I am sure it was a heady tab). Sadly I think most intoxicants got ruined for her by her ex husband who would be the one trying to get her to do things.

My mother is the same way. It infuriates me to the point that I just can't talk to her about it. She doesn't know I smoke, but she thinks people who do are pretty despicable. I've argued with her about it countless times and I always give intelligent well supported arguments...and all she can say is "it's illegal."
I hate how so many people seem to think that illegal=bad. Another thing that makes me incredibly angry is when people under 21 criticize me for smoking because it's illegal and therefor immoral, but they drink and smoke cigarettes. That's illegal too! Not to mention far worse for your body. Propaganda has brainwashed too many people into thinking pot is bad. I really wish that people were more educated about what it does and why it's illegal.

When I went to a rave(I called it an all night festival ) my mom told me it was OK to smoke and that I shouldn't do any other drugs. Maybe I should have listened, I ended up dosing what I think was DOB (plus some methy rolls ), but it was pretty rad she told me that.
I've never actually asked my parents if they've smoked but I know the answer. Someday I'll talk to them about drugs, right now isn't the best time. I think they still have some growing up to do, they have a funny mentality with my little brother around[can't really blame them I guess]

All I have to say is, compare marijuana sentences with violent crime sentences. Then tell me what happens when children find out that marijuana isn't any worse than legal alcohol. Wrong. message.

I'm in the same boat. From time to time I try to explain to her the truth. Recently I said something like "the two legal recreational drugs kill the most people per year than any other cause, particularly cigarettes. And it's no small margin, cigarettes kill over 20,000 a year here and illegal drugs is under 600. But then they ban drugs like mushrooms and pot because they're "dangerous" and "addictive." Can't you see the hypocrisy here? Tell me what you think now."
And she said "I'll get back to you" but never did. Other times she has said (and I shit you not) "my brain hurts" and just stops listening. And this brings me back to the Matrix. "There is a rule that we do not free a mind once it reaches a certain age. It is dangerous. They have trouble letting go. Their mind turns against them."
I'm currently trying to convince my dad to do shrooms with me, I think I have a chance since he's done lsd before and some other shit like shooting up.
Peace.

The only reason marijuana is "illegal" is because it doesn't encourage behavior that would benefit our capitalistic society here in the USA. Although it's completely harmless, marijuana has negative connotations just because some random government document says SCHEDULE II (or w/e it is). There's a reason you see vending machines with drinks packed with caffeine on the streets or at university. The government would rather have a bunch of hyper working freaks than intellectual, albeit lazy, pot smokers.

I always thought my family was against it because it was illegal, but at bottom I think every parent just wants to look out for their kids. Just enjoyed it man. That wouldn't be something I'd stress about. If you get a bad vibe from your folks about I wouldn't push it. Sounds like your pops knows whats up anyways. im sure you guys will blaze it some day.

This is pretty much the situation with my Mom. You have to look at it from their perspective, their son who was once just a small baby is now off doing "drugs". Its not right, but that is how I've forced myself to see it, there's no point in trying otherwise.
