> Christ came to earth and told people to do two things:
> a) Love God
> b) Be nice to eachother

... which is basically what the ten commandments say, if you look at them. There are five that tell how to love God, and five more that tell how to love each other.

Christ came to die. He knew it was his job to die for us sinners (everybody). In John 3, while talking to Nicodemus (sp?), Jesus said, "Just as the serpent in the wilderness was lifted up, so must the Son of Man."

but what did his death accomplish?

and how many more Christs will we kill before we learn our lesson?

He came to accomplish what he knew he must do since Adam and Eve ate the fruit.  The greatest GIFT of all, the atonement for our sins.  Jesus was the ONLY Christ.  Many Christians have been slaughtered because of their beliefs, and "Christians" have slaughtered others because of their beliefs. :mad2:  You have no idea the anger I feel for what so-called "Christians" have done.  From the Spanish Inquisition to the Alabama monument.  It burns me up.

"how long, o lord?"
how many times must we murder the divine?
in human societies, there have been many dead & risen gods (& goddesses, ok...) - hasn't anybody read _the golden bough_ ???
i ran across a nice matrist retelling of the demeter/persephone story...
gimme that old time religion...
okay, has anybody read edgar pangborn's beautiful sci-fi cycle, the "davy" stories? oh yeah, send us a fresh message & a new messenger, and we will pervert the message & we will kill the messenger... (abraham, god's messenger, tied to the wheel & broken for our sins, in the city of nuber, in the flooded ruins of what once was new england, maybe a century or so after the spasm war & following plagues that destroyed our so-called civilization...)
~
a cultural motif of deicide (and of theophagy!) can be found in cultures from across time and around the world...
a myth is as good as a smile...
and i'm sure if we go back long before these stories were written down (thus moving from myth to scripture, mmkay?), that our pre-literate ancestors over the past, what, 100,000 years or so (writing has only been happening for like less than 10,000 years...) would recognize "that old, old, story"...
(of course, when the spanish priests who accompanied the conquisidors to the new world heard the aztec tales of sacrificed gods & ritual consumption of god's fleash, they thought that maybe satan had led these people down the path to perdition by giving the indians a horrible perversion of the true christian gospel... oh well, baptize the savages & then kill them all, god will sort them out...)
~
strange daze...

From now on, I think I'll say "i'm a follower of Christ" rather than saying "i'm a Christian". The word Christian has too many stigmas linked to it.

And any stigma will lick a good dogma...

I don't think it took a guy to die for us for us to be free from our sins, although we still live with the direct consequences.. I mean, I am flattered that someone sacrificed themselves for the good of everyone before and after him and all, but was it necessary? Jimi Hendrix lived in an illusion that he was Christ and was living out his life....
Peace.

Heh, from the way I understand it, he was believing that he was Christ and such, and that he would be crucified...

The whole thing about him is really messed up. His manager used to work for the U.S. government (CIA or something, don't remember), and there was all sorts of inside stuff going on with the mob.. I don't have my Guitar World in this country that goes really in depth about it, but there was nevertheless some twisted stuff going on..

If some white people talk different than other white people, are they really white? c'mon, of course Christians don't agree on their books and doctrines, but that's because it was never one religion of one God in the first place. Christianity is the eternal resting urn of the Greek, Egyptian, and Babylonian Pantheons, plus the Gnosis.
If you do not sense forgery in the Bible, you have NOT read a word of it.

John Lennon thought he was Jesus for a time as well. Its the acid man. They reach a form of enlightenment and feel how Jesus probably felt then it gets into their head that they actually are Jesus or some profit that has been placed on the Earth. This is more common than you would think.

Religion is sin!

True spirituality is found within yourself and not inside a book.

If you have a clear conscience and you ask yourself for the answer it will be clear and well understood.(sometimes the answer is that you don't need the answer or you will learn in time with a point in the right direction) If you search for your answers in the literal meaning of a book that was written a long time ago you find confusion and misunderstanding. When you have to translate what was written you only further confuse what is already gossip. I'm not saying that Jesus did not exist but even if he was as wonderful as we would like to believe how can you trust that the Scriptures are portraying his true message?

An easy way to control a society is to have them worship another human being. This automatically undermines the potential of every human being. They don't want any more Jesus running around. Convincing everyone that they should worship him as the one and only son of God is is how they try to ensure that we don't have to deal with anymore of the likes of him. I do not see God as a being or entity waiting to judge me when I die but I do believe in God as an all powerful and all encompassing energy source or something of the sort, of which we are all part of. We are all sons and daughters of God and we all have the potential to be a savior or Prophet. Religion segregates humanity and causes much confusion, lack of acceptance and even war.

The world would be a better place without religion.

It is a huge insult to the intelligence of humanity to suggest that we should refer to an instruction manual for life!

More to the point of this thread, there are many people who believe themselves to be Christian and I would not disagree with them even if just to avoid an unnecessary confrontation. I hope you can see from the rest of my post that I agree with the 0P. Humanity has adopted a far more efficient method of silencing the truth with censorship, imprisonment, the use of psych wards and the occasional assassination.

And we didn't crucify him, they did!... at least that's how the story goes...
