Curious about Zapotecorum...
    #9763837 - 02/09/09 12:17 AM (15 years, 1 month ago)

I am interested in starting to grow Psilocybe zapotecorum for I received several prints a while back.

Would anyone know ANYTHING about attempting a spawn run or a substrate recipe? It would be amazing to bring these to fruit.

please share your thoughts.

Good question. Wikipedia says it grows on "soils rich in organic matter". I am quite sure that you could use grains and then spawn to a mix of compost, coir and verm. I can also imagine worm castings to be beneficial. After all, it grows on soils that are mostly composted foliage of (sub)tropical forests. The environmental parameters would be similar to those you'd use for growing cubes, I believe.

I would try a mixture of sawdust and bran at a 4-1 ratio as a spawn medium, you may be able to fruit them directly from this substrate with an untreated peat and calcium carbonate casing layer!
inski.

Spawn run similar to almost anything really. I never worry about what temps the mycelium colonises in.

Workman recommended a substrate consisting of 75% composted horse manure and 25% hardwood dust/shavings. It seems that P. zapotecorum prefers its substrate to be nearly saturated.

Great, I got hardwood shavings and manure. All I need now is some zapotecorum spores.
