Misting colonized casings
    #976307 - 10/20/02 03:13 AM (21 years, 7 months ago)

The Shroomery FAQ says its ok , but Im not sure what kind of dispenser it is refering to. Im using a "Febreze" Bottle and thus the water drops aren't really fine , does this matter? Im afraid it could do some harm to the mycelium , what do you think?
Thanks,
Jazz

You want as fine a mist as possible . You do not want water pooling to easily , nor do you want water drops pounding the surface of casings or cakes for that matter ,and when time comes you do not want water drops sitting on mushies cap. Get one that has adjustable nozzle .

Yeah, the mist is not going to be fine enough...however it will work if you use extreme caution... i.e. not spraying directly on casings, rather pointing the nozzel upwards in the air and letting it settle into the terrarium.

Try your garden store, they should have spray bottles with nozzles that adjust to the type of spray you want...they are like 2 bucks.

What kind of terrarium do you have constructed?  I have found that a spray shield is the best solution.  I use a piece of cut lexsan (sp?), its just thin, clear plastic boards... like fiberglass, but not as strong.  I put that at an incline over my cakes and spray it hard, it breaks your mist up considerable and supercharges the terrariums humidity levels quickly!  Not to mention that, at an incline, after you spray, the water is washed down teh plastic and into the bottom of the terrarium, with no chance of spraying your cakes.
go to fanaticus.com and look at the dual chambered terrarium.
