is this normal?

I fallowed this formula to a ?T? but they seam a little dry going in and still a little dry after pressure cooking is this normal or how moist should they look? i PC for one hour @ 15 pis.

Mix:
5 cups vermiculite
3 cups manure
10 tblspns BRF
1.5 - 1.75 cups water
(makes 10-12 half pints)

Fill your canning jars, sterilize,

You really need to judge the water content rather than just following a recipe. The water content of manure is very variable. I would have mixed everything together and added water until the mix just dripped a bit when squeezed quite hard.

Is it normal to put manure in jars? No
If it looks moist,it's probably too moist.

1 part BRF
2 parts vermiculite
1 part water

I guess I lied a little :frown:  I did add a 1/4 cup more water than it called for because it seamed a little to dry. Now that they have cooled down all the way they look fine. :smile: And yes it may not be normal to have manure for p cubes but this is for pan cyans.

I second meatman's advice to judge water content by eye and touch rather than by a recipie....The possibilities are endless. :smile:

I'd just like to throw in that this is why I feel every one should gorw from the MMGG a couple of times. Preparing those BRF cakes two or three times gets you familiar with how your substrate should feel prior to sterilization. If followed correctly the MMGG gives you a good moisture content that you cana use as a base when you branch out and start to try variations. How does that go again; one most learn to crawl...
