MONO TUB SUBSTRATE *** WHAT WORKS ???

Hi,
Im getting ready to put grain jars in a monotub? What is the best bulk substrate for a monotub?
I just finished casing some cakes and used 50/50+oyster/lime Casing but I understand that when you get into the bulk substrate you can not use the same stuff ...
So when my grain jars are 100% colonized and my mono-tubs are ready ... What is the best substrate for the bottom of the montub w/o me breaking the bank ?

8 parts cow poo 4 parts vermiculite 4 parts coco coir 1 part gypsum 1 part coffee grounds 1 part worm castings
That is what I am using on my current grow. I have 6 tubs in a large grow tent. Decided on this formula after reading the following threads...

I hope that helped.

Yea ... Can you just use Coir or is it best to mix something else with the coir ?
I have never bought Coir, I think that is the only thing I have not bought since I have started, but I remember someone bitching because it was expensive, I thought?
So much information, I have done alright seperating it until now ... but like I said I just cased some cakes with 50/50 + and they suggested using this on the bottom layer as well as the top, so I thought you could do the same thing for bulk

You can use just coir if you like, but I'm not a pro by any means.
If price is an issue, go 50/50 with poo and coir. Cow poo is like $6 for 50lbs. You'll need the coir to help with it's consistency.

Where do I go to get Cow poo $6 for 50lbs ? I would definitly do that and mix with Coir ?
Every site I have checked out is charging high dollar for bags of cow/horse poo ?

Thanks for the great info Texmex !!! I just seen your recipe above too, that's awesome !!!
Everything I read from the begining was casing on perlite, and now that I have 3 bags of perlite, I would rather use the mono tubs ...
Seems like I never have everything that I need, I guess that just goies with hobby

coir isnt the cheapest... composted cow crap is.. 1.50 a 40pound bag.. or its free in a field. Straw is very cheap. I think coir works good with a combination of other substrate materials verm/gypsum/coffee. You can grow directly from straw.. theres a sign its full of nutes.
Always add gypsum.

I plan to spawn 5 500ml BRF PF-Tek cakes to a 52L monotub using about 10L of bulk substrate: 5kg cow poo, 2kg verm, 2kg coir, 800ml gypsum or thereabouts.

Thanx so much for everyones help Texmex, Shr00mz, Stoi ...
I just cased my BRF cakes in 50/50 + They are now back in incubation for a few days. I have started some Honey LC and some quart rye jars .
I hope to have everything that I need in order to put the rye grain in a monotub by time the rye is done colonizing.
Thanx again for the help and I'm sure I will be asking lots more questions before I am done

So the pics of my aluminum trays above, is that right?
I covered them with 50/50 + casing layer, put aluminum foil over the top and placed back in the incubator to let it start colonizing ?
Is this right or should I put them in a fruiting chamber and introduce light and FAE ?
I thought that they stayed in the incubator until the casing starts getting colonized and then you were to move them to the fruiting chamber ...
If I am correct about how long do I let the casing layer colonize before I do move to the FC ?
Thanks in advance for your help

casing layer is supposed to be non-nutritious so it doesnt colonize its just to make a micro-climate for your sub. I put it into fruiting conditions. but thats me and my opinion.

I've had great results with straight coco coir. No additives or anything...Just hydrated and pasteurized to perfection. It costs me exactly 5.95 with tax too. It very cheap and it works. I will recommend you get some additives. The only reason I haven't added any is because its winter time and not even nurseries near me carry any of the shit I need this time of the year.
For my current grow I've added blood meal (some say it doesn't work) I just threw in a tbs worth just to see what happens.

yeh me to, cant find gypsum any where, I dont have any construction sites around to scrounge for drywall(dont trust dirty ass dry wall any way).
coffee and verm are great in coir for additives also. I just want all three together.lol
