Whenever you read anything about casing, there is usually something about patching. Now, lets say I had a casing of 50/50+, and I sterilized by putting the mix into jars and PC'ing for 1 hour (I think, could have been 45 minutes, it was like a week ago, give me a break.) @ 15 psi. Now for the casing, I only used one of the four quart jars of 50/50 that I sterilized (expected to have more jars than I actually ended up with, an unseen contam, booo). So I put the lids on the other three jars and kept them for patching up the casing layer. Is this method alright, and if not, what methods do you use to store extra casing material for patching purposes? And how long does sterlilized casing mix last for? Thanks.

I've left sterilized vermiculite in a bowl above my closet covered with seran wrap and tin foil for about a week, and it was still good, little dry though.
I bet the jar will lock in the moisture better though.

I have stored well pasturized 50/50 ++ casing mix in an autoclave bag (folder over -with a big chip type bag clip on it), in a fridge for 2 weeks & it was later used to patch one casing after harvest & case a small tray & all worked fine.

If that is any help?

Well I did some patching. This occured in a small room that was sprayed up and down with lysol, and the mix was scooped out with a alcohol-cleaned spoon. Do you think that it needs to be re-sterilized? Thanks.

Probably - not. But, if you want to be SUPER SAFE, go for it. I would not. 6T  :tongue:

I sterilised my casing material and stored in a microwave container with a lid.
I think it must have stayed in my draw for nearly 3 weeks.
I had absolutly no problems with it.
