Mycelial Slowdown
    #972709 - 10/18/02 05:54 PM (18 years, 11 months ago)

My mycelium has slowed down a good bit. I assume that this is because of Co2 buildup. I was wondering if I could take off the tin foil covering (did not cover innoc. holes) and leave it off. I have a layer of verm at the top.

I leave the tops of the jars uncovered during colonization. Once the mycelium starts to slow down, i flip over the jars to help release some of the built up CO2.

what did you use? if you used the brown rice tek, you dont need to unscrew the jars. with the vermiculite, im pretty sure you will be fine to just barely loosen the jars. my friend is making grain jars, and just barely cracked the lids and so far they are alright. good luck

No nevermind. I have gotten so far that I dont want to risk it all now. But my next grow I will use the double coffee filters, thanks!

P.S. I never use jars. I just use drinking glasses.

With winter approaching alot of people are having this trouble .........so what are your incubation temps? If below 82*F , then you have your answer , the lowered temps slowed it down . If not they may be running out of moisture , C02 is not huge issue during germination , and running , unless excessive . If all you have is foil covering jars , co2 is not problem in my eyes . Invert the jars if you are concerned .
Good Luck
ps Leave the foil on , even if you flip .
