Ghoul's Night Out

This is great, I've been listening to old misfits nonstop last night and today, and it isn't old! I've been into them since I was in 7th grade. I don't like their new stuff tho, I don't know why, but its NOT cuz I'm a purist! I like the new singer's voice, just not most the songs. I guess the older songs have more of a punk feel....hell, some of their older stuff reminds of street punk & oi stuff. Great band. Samhain is good too, pretty much misfits with a different name. Danzig's solo stuff I hate tho. Any other Misfits fans? And anyone seen em live? I never got to go see em.

You've been deprived. Don't even get me starated on them. They've been my hero band since I was first turned on to them years ago. I'm still waiting for them to get a new permanent front man. The current line up is: Dez Cadena (Ex-Black Flag) on vocs and Guit; Jerry Only on vocs and bass, and Marky Ramone on drums. Robo was with them too on the 25th Anniversery tour. He's a cool shit. Me a friend hung out drinking with him during the Boston and Providence R.I. shows. He is one crazy Columbian! -Bruiser

A Ramone is in the Misfits??? AND a Black Flag guy??? Shit, I thought Micheal Graves was still singin! I'm gonna have to check em out now. Is Famous Monsters better than American Psycho?
On a side note-I just went to the restroom at work, and saw a huge pile of public hairs in the floor. That was weird.

I find them both to be equally good. Evil live 2 is pretty kick ass if you can find it. It didn't go on sale to the public. It's a live CD from the Ressurection Tour. -Bruiser

Dez is the lead singer now? Markey Ramone on drums?!?
That's a hell of a lot better than what they used to have. Michael Graves was the absolute WORST!!!!!! I WANTED and DID like him at first. American Psycho wasn't all that bad. I thought "oh, this is just the begining", but "Famous Monsters" SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCKED!!!!!!!!!! It was fucking PATHETIC!!!!!! Michael Graves and Jerry Only had NO idea what made the original Misfits good. It's all just a money making deal. I saw them in concert when AP came out twice, but now, i'd never give them a dime. Thank God they got rid of Graves though, he DIDN'T EVEN LISTEN TO THE MISFITS BEFORE HE JOINED!!!!!
As for Samhain, I have the boxed set, and it's really good. The first album "Initium" sounds the closest to the Misfits sound, but it starts to drift further and further into the Danzig sound with each album.
I love Danzig(the band). The first two albums kick ass. I haven't heard the third, but it's probably good.

Graves was okay, even though he didn't listen to the Misfits. At least he tried to sound somewhat like the old Fits. Doesn't even compare to the old stuff though. When Graves left the band and started his new one, they recruited Dez, Markey, and even had Robo come back. It's cool to see them, but they really need a strong front man. Dez rocks, but it's just not the Misifits. They don't sound the same.Times change, and they have evolved with the times rather than fade away, but they seem to be losing whatever shreds of the old Misifits they had. With Doyle gone (for now) Jerry is the only member of the orginal Misfits. Unless you count Robo of course, but I don't think he'll be sticking around. I'll always be a devoted fan. I'm just hoping they have another re-birth before they hang up the Devastator and the Annihilator for good -Bruiser
And I love the live CD in the Samhain box set!

I thought Evillive 2 SUUUUUUUUUUCKED ASS!!!!!!
It had no spirit whatsoever.
Evillive 1 starts out with Danzig furiously screaming "THIS ONE'S 20 EYES! ONE TWO THREE FOUR!!!!!!" That cd is RAW
Evillive 2 is just so uninspired and weak sounding. It's as if Graves didn't want to be there.
Basically, the new Misfits will put out ANYTHING that says Misfits, because they know that die hard fans that don't know any better will buy it.

Lately that's true. But you can't have your cake and eat it too. They will never be the same as when Danzig was there. You either have to adapt and accept it, or walk the other way. There are mixed reviews to the current Misfits. I don't even group them or associate them as bieng in the same class as the Misfits of yesteryear. I did and do thoroughly enjoy the CD releases done by the 2nd gen Misfits. I thought the Evil live 2 cd was great. It has it's ups and downs, but overall I liked it. I also liked the Cuts from the Crypt CD. Most of it sounded the same as the released versions, but it was cool to finally have Dead Kings Rise on CD (Even though I have the record) I also really like the Bruiser track (No relation to my nick) and 1,000,000 years B.C. (Even though that was on a European release). I think that overall, they've done a decent job over the past 6 or 7 years. My only real exception to this is the latest single "The Day The Earth Caught Fire" split with Balzac. Definatley not worth the money, and sounds nothing like ANY Misfits. I'm not really impressed with it, even though I've kept it in my music rotation. I'm hoping the more I listen to it, the more I'll like it. It's not going very well. -Bruiser

If the new Misfits had used some other name, it wouldn't be NEARLY as bad. They might actually be respectable. But the fact that they use the name "The Misfits" is BEGGING for people to draw parralles between the 1st and 2nd incarnations.
Danzig was smart. He called his next band "Samhain". I like Samhain, I would have less respect for them if they had called themselves "The Misfits", even though Danzig IS the Misifts.
If Jerry had called his band "Ghosts" or something, then i'd respect them a lot more. Since he called his band "The Misfits", he's trying to say it's the same band. IT"S NOT!!!

Definatley not, that's why I try not to compare the two. The newer Misfits kept their name and most of the songs over legalities. Since the name was Jerry's idea, and most of the songs were recorded as The Misfits, Glen lost out on the rights. When Jerry decided to start the band again in the 90's with Doyle, his logical choice was to keep the name even though there were only 2 of the founding members. I don't necessarily agree with this, but I think they did a good job (Up until recently) Glen has gone on to do Samhain, and then just Danzig. Almost all of it rocks, but he has gone down a differnt path then in his humble beginnings. His stuff is more dark and with a somewhat slower/drearier beat. There will never be anything like the raw, mindblowing sound of the original Misfits lineup! -Bruiser

Static Age kicks ass. I used to listen to the Box Set nonstop. And doing that again today. Where Eagles Dare is still my favorite song! I have Danzig's first CD autographed by evil elvis himself, even tho I only like one song on it, Mother.
I'm also starting to get into the Dead Boys. I've had their CD's for years but I never listened to em much till recently. Them and Skrewdriver's first two albums, before they went shitty. Almost as bad as the Cockney Rejects going metal. At least CR didn't go the nazi route I guess.

I don't like the Dead Boys. I'm sure that they were very good when they were new.
I've just heard SO much punk rock, that The Dead Boys can't have the impact on me that they had on people during the time that they first came out.

You've got the number one misfits fan here. I'm 41 and still listening to them. I saw them last year here in south florida minus 2 members. I used to go see them in CBGB's in the early 80's before they were anybody. I have all their CDs. They fucking rule. I was also a big Black Flag fan as well as the Dead Kennedys. Here I am now, a parent and a respectable member of society. Guess I fucked up somewhere After Danzig left, I was heartbroken.

Thanks. Here's another lyric post.........
In reply to:
So it's Halloween And you feel like dancin' And you feel like shinin' And you feel like letting loose
Whatcha gonna be Babe, you better know And you better plan Better plan all day
Better plan all week Better plan all month Better plan all year
You're dressed up like a clown Putting on your act It's the only time all year You'll ever admit that
I can see your eyes I can see your brain Baby, nothing's changed [repeat]
You're still hiding in a mask You take your fun seriously No, don't blow this year's chance Tomorrow your mold goes back on
After Halloween
You go to work today You'll go to work tomorrow Shitfaced tonight You'll brag about it for months
Remember what I did Remember what I was Back on Halloween
But what's in between Where are your ideas You sit around and dream For next Halloween
Why not everyday Are you so afraid What will people say [repeat]
After Halloween
Because your role is planned for you There's nothing you can do But stop and think it through But what will the boss say to you
And what will your girlfriend say to you And the people out on the street they might glare at you And whadya know you're pretty self-conscious too
So you run back and stuff yourselves in rigid business costumes Only at night to score is your leather uniform exhumed Why don't you take your social regulations And shove 'em up your ass
-"Halloween" by The Dead Kennedys
