???Inoculating in cold environement???
    #9723754 - 02/02/09 04:16 PM (15 years, 2 months ago)

I feel my house may not be a good place to knock up my jars b/c my bathroom does not have an exhaust fan and we have a continual problem with mold growing on the walls (just in the bathroom though). The bathroom isnt connected to any duct-work in the house and we try to always keep the door shut. I would rather be safe than sorry though.

So my ?????:
Would my garage be a viable inoculation site? High for tomorrow is to be below 20*F and I plan on using a ghetto glove box-foam cooler with plastic sheeting for a lid. Also would it be safe to sterilize jars tonight and (once completely cooled) leave them out their until Im ready? I will have micropore tape and tinfoil cover still on. Will the cold have an adverse effect on the spores or am I just being to concerned?

i dont see why you couldn't innoc in cold environment, just as long as after inoculation you put the substrate in its proper environment(proper temp and whatnot)

Forget bathrooms unless you're taking a dump.  They're the second nastiest room in a house after the kitchen.  Use your bedroom after a good cleaning and oust treatment.  Garages have too many drafts.

I wasn't planning on doing it in the bathroom-just concerned that the mold problem in there may be throughout the entire house, even though there aren't any visible signs.
My garage is fairly drafty though, so bad idea? I might have to crawl into a closet. We smoke in every room of the house, plus my two dogs sleep in my room. The spare bedroom houses a few lizards. So I was guessing both bedrooms were out of the question. My two cleanest options were the garage and a hall closet. I just thought that with the below freezing temps the garage had the biggest possibility of being cleaner.

I have a car that hasn't been used in two years stored in the garage, that would probably be cleaner than anything in my house.
any thoughts?

You cleanest place to inoculate would be a glove box. At the cost of no more than 10, USD.

All you need is:

Clear Storage bin - $4 at andersons
Rubbergloves and tape - $1 at dollar store
2 Flexible couplings - $1.50 each at lowes

I knocked up jars, and a bag in my room no contams, no glovebox.

However, I am in the process of building one in hopes of using agar in there.

Edit: O, also we have mold in a room in the basement, but all was good.

I already have the GB prepared. So you haven't experienced prob's with mold in house affecting the innoc if the glove box is used (properly).

Would it be best to leave the brf jars inside the glove box until colonization starts, to further reduce chances of contams-since they need GE while colonizing instead of FAE. Once again they will be taped with micropore tape.
