Just had to pop in to pitch two of my favorite games ever: Starflight and X-Com: UFO Defense
    #9661452 - 01/22/09 07:56 PM (15 years, 2 months ago)

Starflight. One of the nerdiest games ever. It's pretty kickass. It might actually be shitty, because I never paid attention to the story line or aliens much, but running around on new planets in new galaxies hammering away looking for minerals is the perfect way to relax after a stressful day. It sparks my imagination. This guy is a massive douche but it's the only video there of the game:

X-COM just fucking kicks ass. Play it. This voice over is stupid too but it shows gameplay.

They need to make a new XCOM game that's exactly like the old one but updated for modern computers. They keep fucking it up.

No I mean, none of the other XCOM games are as good as the first one.

I agree with that too. When I was little I actually almost teared up because they were so god awful. The tears were sympathy for the producers.

Two of my favourite game companies were Microprose and Bullfrog. Just looking at their logos now gives me a shiver as I remember seeing it at the start of so many good games.

Aww heck why not add this one:

I think for a year all my free time went into X-Com.  That game was fucking awesome.

One complaint though, the mind control device was too damn good.

Yes, towards the end I would usually have 4 soldiers (ones with the best psy powers) who would stay back in the ship, out of harm's way, and mind-control whenever possible.

That, together with the blaster bomb (that guided thing) got me out of many sticky situations.

Julian Gollop was the guy who designed the X-Com games, he used to make great strategy games for the 8-bit machines back in the 80's like Lords of Chaos and Rebelstar...man im gettin old lol

the XCOM games were great. Don't really like the modern remakes. But this freeware version is fun

Yes, as you collect alien artifacts and research them you begin to learn about the aliens' origin, and then you can start working on a special transport ship that can go into space. Once you launch it takes you to the last (very large) level of the game.

holly crap i didn't know that, you must have to collect all the alien bodys to because it seems like i researched everything i could once...unless i forgot one :frown:
but i alway get an end of game because all the countrys stop funding me and then the aliens overun the map. i try to make new bases but i never have enough money to get things going fast enough.

it seems like all the countrys want a base and of course you gotta have planes otherwise theres no point :frown:

lol!

It's pretty easy to beat. I think what you need is a couple of those big green human looking guys captured alive. Next time you raid an enemy base use stun grenades like made and try to find "BIG GREEN MUSCULAR ALIEN GUY Commander". He'll sing like a little bitch then you can go to Mars.
