Quote:
My family has always used pork neck bones to flavor it as well, not ground beef.
Pork (neck) bones are a must when making sauce, and don't use sugar use more onions. Onions will cut the acidity of the tomatoes and sweeten up the sauce.
Most important is the pork bones, that's were all the flavor is, make sure to cook it for a long time 4-8 hours the longer the better to get the flavor.

Yea, depends on what you buy. If you have to buy all the spices it will cost closer to $40
If you already have all the spices it may only cost around $25-30
Again this recipe makes a LOT
Well worth the $$$ IMO

looks good, man! so how long do you simmer that altogether? like 5 hours?
whenever i make red sauce i only simmer for like an hour at the most. does it make it much better to cook it that long?

It is between 4 and 5 hours.
IMO cooking the sauce slow for several hours makes for a better sauce.

I have used 4-6 fresh ones from a farmers market before. Takes much longer for them to cook down though, but the sauce has a better flavor IMO.

it'd probably be better to use semi dried tomatos with the crushed tin tomatos instead of cooking down fresh if it works out too expensive to use bulk roma tomatos unless you have a bathroom tomato stealth op going on

$30 to $40 dollars is crazy for a spaghetti sauce though, even if you get to freeze some. That should be enough for a sauce party.
The Italians would be making some serious hand gestures and foreign noises if they knew you spent that on one sauce.
I'm sure it's tasty though.
