LME sediment question...

I used one of the LME teks, and ended up with a bit of sediment at the bottom of the jar. It has been one week since I innoced the jars and I havnt noticed any growth in suspension, but the sediment is looking a lot less dense, and a lot fluffier, almost like little cotton balls. Unfortunatly I do not have a camera, but was wondering if anyone could lend some help. Is this normal or bad?

From reading around a bit, it sounds normal, a lot of people get a bit of weird sediment.
I think a better way to do an lc style thing is like what RR and a lot of other people have posted about:

For those who wish to make LC for inoculation, here's a way to get 100 syringes full of inoculant in two weeks: 1) Inoculate a quart jar of rye berries or wbs with your spores. Upon full colonization, shake the jar to loosen each individual kernel. Be sure to give it the smell test to make sure it smells like fresh mushrooms. 2) PC a quart of distilled water in a jar with a filter disk or tyvek, etc. In a glovebox or in front of a flowhood, pour 2/3 of the quart jar of sterilized water into your jar of shaken grains. 3) Shake well and then pour the now mycelium rich water back into whatever was left of your jar of sterilized water. Use the jar lid to hold back the grains themselves from pouring out. You now have a full quart of highly concentrated mycelium water that can then be used as is, or diluted two or three times again, and used to fill syringes. Because the grains were shaken first, the mycelium is ripped into shreds and will be sucked through even small needles easily, although larger needles always work better for this.
Remember, mycelium grows poorly in water unless under constant stir which oxygenates it. With grains, they colonize in two weeks or less because oxygen is throughout the jar in the spaces between the kernels. RR
Lc is cool and all, but this method would probably save you a good bit of time in the end, especially if one doesn't own a stir plate. You can see contams in the jar better than with a standard lc.

I've been using lme for awhile now and you get some sediment every time. You can reduce it by running the whole solution through a coffee pot (with a filter in place) then pouring it from the coffee pot into your jars to sterilize.
You'll still get some sediment, but not much. The mycelium will eat it up after a week or two anyway.
What RR said about lc's may be true for honey or karo, karo sucks! Not sure about honey but karo is definitely weak sauce.
LME on the other hand, the mycelium will tear that stuff up, if left alone it'll colonize the whole jar into a solid blob and then start going upward.

You really wanna use it before it gets to this point :-D
The only way to use it once it's done this is to preload the syringe with sterile water then use it to blast the mycelium into bits, that and use a heavy gauge syringe.
