So the question is... what psychoactives are there besides coffee, tobacco, and alcohol that are legal to recreationally consume without a prescription?

For instance, is tripping on DXM illegal?

I don't see why everyone's like "Eat em! Don't waste them by smoking them!"

At ten dollars an O, smoking a bowl or two really isn't "wasting" anything

Yeah, drying definitely messes up the flavor. I've tried higher doses twice... they're something I'd like to explore more, but it's hard for me to find the time for such a heavy experience. I really enjoy them in low-doses as a general tonic.

Amanita muscaria is completely legal to buy, sell, and consume in the US.  Unless it happens to contain bufotenine, which has very occasionally been reported in trace quantities... then technically it's illegal to eat, though not any more illegal than bananas.

HBWR on the other hand is technically illegal to buy, sell, possess, or consume in the US... but only if you're aware that it contains lysergic acid amides (confusing, right?).  I think people say that buying the seeds is legal because the average person doesn't know that they contain LSAs. I'm guessing that the idea that consuming them is illegal stems from the fact that a person who is consuming them is probably aware of their chemical consituents.

Our drug laws are pretty fucked up :shrug:




As to smoking Amanitas, I'm curious if anyone's gotten good effects from them? I peeled the skins off a bunch of mushrooms and dried them seperate from the rest of the caps, so those are sitting around somewhere here awaiting experimentation.  I tried smoking a very small bit and found the flavor of the smoke to be atrocious. Just because of that, I don't really want to try experimenting with them until i've heard others reporting decent results. Otherwise, I'll stick to eating them.

yeah where i live the grow all over the place from like october to december to. free amanitas everywhere many many ounces for everyone.:shrug: i really didn't think smoking em tasted that bad, i didn't like it but i didn't mind either. i think next time i can get some i will try eating em though.

Dude... amanitas are not illegal to consume... they aren't approved for consumption, but neither are any of the supplements you find in a healthfood store. It just means their ingestion isn't regulated by the FDA, which means "Use at your own risk, and nobody can be held accountable". It would be illegal however, to eat them and drive. You can be charged with any type of noticable intoxication, legal or not, while operating a motor vehicle.
